Job summary

We are very excited to advertise this new role in the new Neighbourhood Mental Health Centre in Gleadless and Heeley.

Sheffield is proud to have been selected as one of six national pilot sites for NHSEngland following significant national expressions of interest and a rigorous selection process.

Reports from around the worldhighlight the continued need to addressdiscrimination and promote citizenship and belonging in mental health care settings and communities.

There is a shift to focus on:

  • Neighbourhood mental health care

  • Person-centred and human rights-based approaches

  • The need for linkages between housing, education and employment

  • Aligning to the evidence base

We are looking to appoint an experienced clinician to support the swift management of escalation of crisis management within existing systems, whilst also developing and strengthening the crisis offer within the developing pilot.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will undertake a mix of clinical, leadership and transformation tasks for the duration of the role. An ability to undertake assessment and swiftly manage risk will be paramount to the role.

The post holder will provide clinical/practice overview and input into the team. The post holder will provide senior clinical and day to day leadership role within the centre, whilst retaining an integral part of the leadership/management structure, developing practice, practitioners and team functioning,

Job description

Job responsibilities

  • The post holder will take a lead in escalating need to the Urgent & Crisis team and to work alongside colleagues across both services to offer the timeliest assessment and intervention to service users falling within the Gleadless & Heeley remit.
  • The Post holder will attend daily huddles and all team MDTs within Gleadless & Heeley and also link back to Urgent & Crisis to maintain attendance at Urgent & Crisis business meetings and be available to join Urgent & Crisis huddles.
  • Alongside the Centre Manager, the post holder will work alongside external parties, i.e. emergency services to consider the role of Gleadless & Heeley within the blue light pathway.
  • The post holder will build strong relationships with external providers delivering NHS 111 Mental health option calls to ensure that callers falling with the Gleadless & Heeley remit are appropriately redirected to services available to them.
  • The post holder will build strong relationships with the crisis network to enable smooth movement/escalation of need within existing pathways.
  • Responsible with the Centre Manager for ensuring that the service adheres to Care Pathways and service wide systems and processes for the delivery of health and social care, developing strong links with the U&C team, to attendance at core management meetings to feedback developments within the G&H Centre.

  • Responsible with the Leadership Team for managing and developing staff from a range of professions by providing regular work supervision and appraisal.

  • Be a positive role model to promote a conducive working environment.

  • Responsible with the Centre Manager and Leadership Team for developing effective team working.

  • Responsible for the development of evidence-based practice within the service.

  • Responsible for the development of service policies and protocols in conjunction with the leadership across the Gleadless and Heeley Neighbourhood Centre and wider teams working into the centre.

  • Responsible with the Leadership Team for auditing practice within the team.

  • To maintain contemporary knowledge of educational developments in relation to the service and profession.
  • Routinely engage with service improvement initiatives.
