Job summary

We are seeking to recruit several Clinical Associate Psychologists (CAPs) to provide psychological interventions to service users of the Adult Eating Disorder Service as part of a multi-disciplinary team SEDS (Sheffield Eating Disorders Service). As part of service developments to enhance regional provision; the roles will involve working with the SEDS team for our service users in their respective geographical areas. SEDS is a regional service covering South Yorkshire (Sheffield hub and regional spokes within Barnsley, Rotherham & Doncaster). You will be working with patients attending clinics, in community and inpatient settings and in their own homes.

The characteristics of the core population receiving direct services are people with complex psychological and emotional needs who may have experienced adverse life events. Your work will primarily involve assessing and delivering interventions to people presenting with moderate to severe Anorexia Nervosa and Bulimia Nervosa.

Main duties of the job

You will be working within a multidisciplinary team which includes medics, nursing, occupational therapy, dieticians, CBT therapists and clinical psychologists. You will work will be under the supervision of a qualified clinical psychologist who will retain clinical responsibility for clinical work carried out, provided that the clinical work is within the care plan specified. There will be opportunities to train in NICE concordant specialist therapies for the treatment of eating disorders (CBT-T, SSCM and MANTRA). Alongside relevant trainings and individual supervisions, you will have access to intervention specific group supervision from qualified CBT therapists and clinical psychologists.

Assessments and interventions will be delivered in a range of settings, including community, Voluntary and Community and Social Enterprises (VCSE) as well as NHS clinics; in person, by telephone or using digital platforms.

The post holder will be involved in partnership working, liaising with various stakeholders in the system, e.g., GPs, primary and secondary care mental health services, colleges and universities, and the 3rd sector/VCSE. The post holder will also be involved in raising the awareness of the complexity of the health and social challenges many people face and the impact this has on mental health & well-being.

Forest Close is a 30 bed intensive inpatient rehabilitation service located in the north of Sheffield. We support adults with enduring and complex mental health needs to recover meaningful lives, work towards more independence, and rebuild their ability and confidence to live in the community. We are an experienced and large multi-disciplinary team and we use a whole team approach to deliver least-restrictive evidence-based care and we strive to continuously improve our service.

We have won national awards in recognition of our positive practice in mental health and are proud to be one of the first services in Sheffield to achieve the Accreditation for Inpatient Mental Health Services (AIMS) from the Royal College of Psychiatry.
