Job summary

We are seeking an experienced qualified Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner (PWP) to be part of Sheffield Talking Therapies in the role of Senior PWP. We would like to hear from you if you share our passion for great patient care and can demonstrate:

Main duties of the job

  • A high level of skills and experience of working successfully with adults experiencing depression and anxiety disorders. The interventions could be delivered using a variety of methods, including face to face, by telephone, in groups or workshops

To meet the National Talking Therapies standards which include an individual minimum 50% recovery rate and to meet 20 clinical contact hours (pro-rata) per week. To ensure productivity expectations are met in line with the National Talking Therapies manual.

To meet patient needs by working across Sheffield according to demand. Working a minimum of 22.5 hours per week and to offer one early appointment and one late appointment per week (outside 9-5pm working hours) and Saturday working on occasion if required.

It is essential you hold a Post Graduate Certificate in Low Intensity Psychological Interventions and Low Intensity Supervision Training

The team brings together experienced Talking Therapies Psychological Wellbeing Practitioners, Cognitive Behavioral Therapists, Counsellors and Clinical Health Psychologists to work closely together with health, social care and third sector colleagues across primary and secondary care in a range of physical health condition pathways

Work within the Talking Therapies service to offer high quality evidence-based interventions within the stepped care model for people with common mental health problems such as Anxiety and Depression.

Offer supervision and professional and practical support to PWP colleagues of varying experience (including PWP Trainees) within the Talking Therapies service.

Offer expert support; clinical guidance and leadership as needed to other PWP colleagues requiring support or when dealing with suitability or difficult clinical situations.

Assistpeople accessing the service for help with common mental health problems to identify their problems; assess their needs; prioritise goals and agree with the individual a way forward or action plan.

Assess and identify patients presenting with risk (to self or other people) and be able to carry out an appropriate risk assessment; follow the Talking Therapies risk protocol; and procedures for communicating and acting on risk (including child and adult safeguarding policies); and provide support to PWP colleagues when required to do the same.

Step patients to more appropriate levels of care in Talking Therapies efficiently and appropriately as part of the stepped care model.

Ensure patients have access to all facilities available at their surgery.

Provide evidence-based interventions for patients both in GP clinics; telephone clinics and group-based interventions, such as guided self-help in line with NICE and Talking Therapies service guidance.

Liaise closely with other members of the teams that as a service we work collaboratively with; and other agencies involved with the individual or family. Report toGPs on patients responses to medication.

Collect and organise information in primary care for patients and families which is appropriate to the individuals as well as appropriate for the servicee.g.using materials and information that is recognised and endorsed by the service.

Provide information on and contacts with groups and organisations in ways that are accessible.

Show respect for peoples social and cultural differences andpreferences,working with people from a wide and diverse background. Work with interpreters when necessary.

Record data on the appropriate data base and record systems as required by the Talking Therapies service in a timely manner; setting a standard and example for PWP colleagues to follow.

Attend training as required and negotiated within the PDR process; be involved in the organisation or delivery of training to colleagues; taking a lead on the dissemination of training and learning from CPD events to teams and colleagues.

Identify opportunities to help improve the quality of the Talking Therapies service; taking the responsibility to raise these as appropriate and bring to the attention of senior Talking Therapies colleagues.

To be worked over a minimum of 3 days which is to include Thursday afternoons as this is service wide non-clinical time for you to be able to contribute to profession specific and service wide meetings, forums and masterclasses to support you in your role and CPD.

Principle duties

To complete all mandated session by session outcome measures

Offer clinical case management supervision to other PWPs; and contribute to the IPDR process for these staff.

Work with other primary and mental healthcareworkers to develop group work identify local needs, publicise the groups, take referrals, manage the groups and report on outcomes to referrers.

Promote and contribute to the development of training for the primarycareteams and support the development of their mental health skills generally.

Develop and maintain appropriate supportive links between practices and statutory and non-statutory organisations.

Contribute to the further development of Sheffield Talking Therapies services.

Organise and facilitate group supervision for the PWP workforce.

To ensure record keeping in line with Sheffield IAPT Standard Operating Procedures. This includes contemporaneous notes completed within 24 hours on the agreed patient record system, checking SHSC patient administration system prior to taking on new patients to check any risk or suitability issues and to send a discharge summary to GP practices once completed treatment.

Ensure all mandatory training is up to date in line with service protocol

Service development and leadership

Offer leadership to the PWP workforce and the Talking Therapies workforce in general particularly in relation to step 2 interventions.

Support step 2 staff to improve and develop the service offered to patients.

Be an ambassador for the service generally; and a champion for specific service development projects or work streams; making a significant contribution to the development of the Talking Therapies service

Participate in individual performance reviews and respond to agreed individual objectives aligned with meeting the service objectives of achieving all three National Talking Therapies standards on access, waiting times and recovery rates.
