Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to act up in the research team based in the Research Development Unit (RDU), Distington House, as part of a development leadership role. The Research Delivery Manager (RDL) will work alongside the current RDL and receive ongoing supervision and training throughout.

The Research Delivery Manager will be responsible for feasibility, set up and delivery of clinical research studies including commercial studies. This will include on-going performance management including NIHR High Level Objectives.

The role will include the supervision and direct line-management of research delivery staff under the direction and supervision of the Deputy Director for Research and work with the Research Manager to ensure RDU are working within the governance framework and standard operation procedures (including creating and reviewing SOPS);

Identifying potential new studies in collaboration with the Local Clinical Research Network, coordinating set-up and delivery to time and target of mental health studies, leading a team of research delivery staff - including Research Nurses and Clinical Studies Officers (CSOs), monitoring the progress of recruiting studies according to recruitment targets and working closely with clinical teams to assist in identifying and recruiting service users to participate in research studies.

Main duties of the job

Sheffield Health & Social Care Foundation Trust's (SHSC) Research Development Unit (RDU) provides oversight for the development and delivery of research within the Trust.

The post holder will be responsible for study set up and the delivery of research studies and provide line management of the research delivery team

The post holder will:

  • oversee set up and delivery of research activity within the Trust to meet performance targets including CRN HLOs;
  • ensure monitoring arrangements are in place and all research activity is recorded in EDGE;
  • performance management and delivery of NIHR and commercial studies to Trust target;
  • assist in reporting and dissemination as required
  • work with the Research Manager to ensure RDU are working within the governance framework and standard operation procedures (including creating and reviewing SOPS)

  • To identify potential participants for NIHR adopted studies according to specific protocols and guidelines, and to assist staff in providing information so that service users may make informed decisions about their participation.

  • To provide verbal and written information and support to research participants and their carers for the duration of their involvement in the research project, and to assist participants with the completion of questionnaires as necessary including informed consent.

  • To liaise with clinical and management staff across all Trust services to encourage and support their active involvement in research.

  • To attend multidisciplinary team meetings regularly to identify appropriate mental health and social care services from which service users and carers might be invited to take part in research studies adopted by the NIHR.

  • Identify areas of low patient recruitment and identify mechanisms for improving.

  • Provide advice and support to Principle Investigators and Research Support staff including support for development of grant submissions, study design and study documentation

  • Ensure recruitment is recorded on EDGE (local portfolio management system) to ensure accuracy of data and monitor performance against targets;

  • Provide written reports on performance management and updates in research delivery as requested by the Deputy Director and Director of Research

  • To contribute to the development of policies and SOPs alongside the Research Manager.

  • Support the development of the Trust Research Champion Network to increase engagement with clinical services and participation in research activities

Service Development

  • The post holder will be responsible for keeping abreast of local, national and international developments that may impact on the post and implement as appropriate.
