We have a dedicated, highly experienced team to lead you through your journey to become a confident and proficient practicing nurse The Preceptorship leads will provide a timetable of training on topics relevant to newly qualified nurses, in the latter part of the program we encourage and support you through the Edward Jenner programme to consolidate your learning and help you in practice.

We will follow your progress from start to finish and when you need a little extra help can provide the coaching necessary to get you there!

For nurses joining the Trust as a qualified Band 5 nurse, we offer a welcome recruitment and retention initiative of £1,300 on commencement, plus a further £1,300 on completion of Preceptorship. Followed by £1,300 then every six month as long as salary remains below mid-point Band 5 and still in employment. This is subject to terms and conditions.

Job responsibilities

To assess plan implement and evaluate programmes of care. To work as a member of a team helping to support student nurses, support staff and more junior members of staff.

Key Result Areas:

Clinical & Patient Care

  1. To ensure that comprehensive nursing assessments are carried out for all assigned patients, reflecting patients identified needs.
  2. To ensure that each allocated patient has a comprehensive, clear and up to date plan of care, with specified objectives, designed to meet the individuals identified care needs.
  3. To ensure that patient care is delivered in a manner consistent with available local guidelines relating to care pathways
  4. To ensure patients are aware of the content of their care plans, and have contributed to their development and evaluation
  5. Undertake where applicable appropriate decision making in relation to the Mental Health Act, and Code of Practice with regard to patient care, for both detained and informal patients as influenced by risk assessments and MDT decision making.
  6. Undertake appropriate action and decision making in relation to the Mental Capacity act and DOLS as part of the MDT approach.
  7. To take a positive approach to responding to patients in acute distress, adopting principles of diffusion and de-escalation. Where physical interventions or restraint are applicable and appropriate to approach in line with available guidance and approved techniques, providing for the safety and dignity of the patient(s). responding to the incident in line with expected practice.
  8. To take positive approaches to patient engagement. Where undertaking specific observations of patients, to do so in line with the available policies and guidelines
  9. To ensure that an appropriate therapeutic environment is maintained within the Ward
  10. To ensure that practice in relation to medicines is in line with local guidelines, individual professional requirements and responsibilities, and ensures individual patient involvement, engagement and concordance
  11. To provide advice and support to ex-patients of the Service, in line with guidelines relating to the provision of 24 hour accessible advice and support to mental health service users
  12. As a member of the Team, to contribute to providing a quality environment for patients in relation to safety, dignity, comfort and day to day activities
  13. Take active and positive approaches to supporting and encouraging patients with their dietary needs, over the 24 hour period
  14. Assist medical staff with routine examinations
  15. To respond to spillages of waste or bodily fluids in line with health and safety guidelines and control of infection guidelinesProfessional

To undertake necessary essential training, (for example life support, general health and safety, prevention and management of violence and aggression) over a suitable period of time, and additional training as identified in support of clinical and professional development.Management & Team Working
