Job summary

We are seeking a motivated Consultant to join our Single Point of Access team in Sheffield.

The Single Point of Access (SPA) service involves being part of a leadership group and supporting a multidisciplinary team consisting of senior and experienced clinicians. 'Daily huddles' and the presence of a leadership team, allows shared decision making around complex issues.

The varied nature of SPA is very exciting, as not only do you come across a wide range of mental health issues, but there is also the opportunity to carry out different roles including individual assessments, consultations with GPs as well as members of the team and close liaison with other services within the Trust such as the Crisis Resolution Home Treatment Team (CRHTT), Recovery Service, Early Intervention Service (EIS) and Emotional Wellbeing Service (EWS) (which works with service users whose needs are clearly identified as requiring short term intervention from mental health services).

The team aims to have a group of doctors, including junior and higher trainees as well as specialty grade doctors, to support the wider team. There is also input from a senior pharmacist within the team who can share some of the medical workload.

Main duties of the job

  • Attendance at ward team meetings
  • Medical leadership to the multidisciplinary ward team.
  • Medical/psychiatric assessments for care planning and risk assessment
  • Formulation and delivery of appropriate pharmacological and psychological interventions to aid recovery.
  • Completion of administrative tasks necessary for clinical responsibilities.
  • Liaison with members of other teams to transfer patients into and out of other services
  • Clinical supervision of junior medical staff
  • Teaching of undergraduate medical students
  • Close communication with GP's and supporting them with managing patients in primary care.

About us

As a part of Team SHSC you will have access to a range of staff benefits, including:

  • Annual leave - offering up to 34 days annual leave plus 8 bank holidays on a pro rata basis dependent upon NHS continuous service time.
  • Access to NHS Pension Scheme - we are members of the NHS Pension Scheme which offers generous employer contributions.
  • Flexible relocation package - we offer up to £8,000 to support your relocation to Sheffield.
  • Study leave - we offer 30 days over three years with a study leave budget of £1,500 per year.
  • Parental leave - we offer a generous maternity, paternity and adoption leave package.
  • Annual Clinical Excellence Awards - we reward the doctors who contribute most to the delivery of safe and high-quality care and the improvement of services.
  • Salary sacrifice scheme - you will have access to a range of huge savings on everything from cars and bicylces, to home electronics and gym memberships.
  • Established Peer Groups - we have a wide range of established peer groups across the Trust including time for engagement with regional specialist specific peer groups.
