Job summary

We are looking for Registered Mental Health Nurses/ Mental Health Social Workers to join Single Point of Access/Emotional Wellbeing Service. Our team prides itself on being a group of experienced, supportive and motivated individuals.

We are a team who sees, and very much values potential. With this in mind, we also have specially designed Band 5 progression posts. This is offered to candidates who we feel would benefit from further support to attain a Band 6 level within the team.

It is an interesting time to be working with this team as we are leading the way in testing new ways of providing mental health interventions in primary care for adults with severe mental illness and complex needs. The Single Point of Access and Emotional Wellbeing Service is being developed as part of the Primary care transformation project.

The post is suitable for Registered Mental health Nurses and Social Workers with at least 18 months experience of working in Mental Health Services.

Skills in assessing, planning, evaluating and managing care are essential, as is a working knowledge of social care management.

Knowledge and understanding of PDR and supervision processes are also essential requirements for the post together with a commitment to the appraiser and supervisor role.

You should have a positive approach to meeting the needs of service users and be able to demonstrate continued professional development. There will be further opportunities for training and development.

Main duties of the job

The Single Point of Access/Emotional Wellbeing Service (SPA/EWS) is a multi-disciplinary team which provides a service to people who are between 18 and 65 years of age, registered with a GP surgery in Sheffield.

SPA/EWS provides a first point of contact for anybody wishing to access Mental Health services in Sheffield.

The objective of the service is to streamline all referrals to mental health services. The team provides an in-depth triage and assessment process. Following assessment there is the potential to offer short term mental health interventions to treat and/or signpost the service user to the most appropriate mental health pathway.

The service operates between the hours of 8:00am - 8:00pm Monday to Friday and works across two locations. The SPA triaging component is based within the Northern General Hospital site as part of the Crisis Hub. The EWS assessment and short term work component is based at Netherthorpe House. Post holders will be expected to rotate across the two sites.

The service links with other teams within SHSC and partner organisations across the public and private sectors to facilitate access to appropriate care, treatment and support.
