Job summary

Sheffield Health and Social Care NHS Foundation Trust (SHSC) is looking for a new Deputy Director of Finance.

This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to the performance of the Trust and to develop your career while making a difference to people's lives in Sheffield.

In addition to the finance function, the role also covers procurement and contracts, although some flexibility can be considered depending on experience.

SHSC provides a wide range of inpatient, community and specialist services, including:

  • Mental health
  • Learning disabilities
  • Dementia
  • Long-term neurological conditions
  • Forensic

We also provide primary care general practice services and a range of specialist services including: talking therapies, perinatal mental health, eating disorders, gender dysphoria, specialist psychotherapy and psychological care for people with physical health conditions.

Main duties of the job

The Deputy Director of Finance will be responsible for the effective day to day management of the Trust's Finance department, ensuring robust internal control systems are in operation, drive an improvement culture for finance supporting and leading the development across SHSC.

Accountable to the Director of Finance, the post holder will work autonomously, be guided by and interpret national policy guidelines, occupational and professional standards and statutory regulations. Key relationships will be the Board of Directors and other senior managers across the Trust, internal audit and other system and external bodies.

The post holder will deputise for the Executive Director of Finance, both within the Trust, with other NHS bodies and partners/agencies external to the Trust to ensure a consistent approach to the implementation of national policies and practices.

  • Ensuring that systems & procedures are in place and are constantly reviewed and updated such that the Trusts Final Accounts are produced to meet the requisite deadlines, accounting policies and standards, as well as other regulatory and legal requirements.

  • Qualified accountant and active member of CIMA, CIPFA, ACCA or ACA

  • Honours degree or equivalent

  • Demonstrates the ability to make constructive challenges.

  • Significant recent and relevant post qualification experience at a senior managerial level within a finance role, including strategic & staff leadership roles & experience of developing systems and processes to adapt to changing environments.
  • Ability to establish and maintain professional credibility at all levels of the organisation.
  • Excellent verbal & written communication skills in particular the ability to communicate complex ideas; to lead and facilitate meetings and giving feedback and recommendations to all levels of the organisation.
