Job summary

Due to the exciting promotion of the existing post holder we are delighted to share this opportunity to apply for a Head of Nursing post within Sheffield Health and Social Care Trust.

The post holder will join the Acute and Community Directorate with a portfolio that covers our inpatient services for adults and older people. If you enjoy the pace and variety of nursing within inpatient services then this is the post you have been looking for !!

#TeamSHSC are on a continuous improvement journey, having had inpatient services rated inadequate in 2020 we have worked with our clinical teams to deliver significant improvements and achieve a requires improvement rating in 2021. We are looking for that motivated and passionate senior nurse who is ready to help the services getting Back to Good as part of a multi professional team.

We are keen to ensure our senior nurses represent the diverse communities we work across and therefore we actively encourage applicants from ethnically diverse groups. This post will also include leadership of our RESPECT team and Nurse Consultant who are supporting the delivery of SHSC least restrictive practice programme as well as providing leadership and professional support to developing our Advanced Clinical Practitioner programme. Working to support inpatient development at this time is a Deputy Head of Nursing to whom the post holder will provide professional supervision and support.

Main duties of the job

The Head of Nursing is a core member of the senior leadership team and is responsible for all aspects of clinical nursing practice ensuring nurses: have the right skills, in the right place to provide the right care at the right time; and are capable, confident & competent to deliver high quality service user centered care.

The Head of Nursing is accountable and responsible for providing the professional leadership of the registered and non-registered nursing workforce across defined services.

The post holder will ensure services are appropriately resourced and able to meet all the regulatory care standards required.

The Head of Nursing will have professional oversight of a nursing workforce of circa 600 Registered Nurses and will hold line management responsibility for approximately 10 senior nurses.

You will need to be a mental health nurse with recent experience in a mental health and learning disability provider. You will be expected to deputise for the Director of Quality on Professional Nursing leadership matters and therefore experience of writing and presenting papers at strategic level is desirable.
