Job summary
We are seeking a motivated and committed consultant psychiatrist to join our Intensive Rehabilitation Service.
Forest close provides mental health inpatient assessment and treatment to the most complex group of patients with severe long term psychotic illnesses. Our patients usually have significant histories of treatment resistance, disengagement with conventional services, repeated detention and hospital admission with significant risk profiles. Co-morbid substance misuse and poor physical health are prevalent.
Main duties of the job
You will be required to work with the multidisciplinary teams offering a recovery orientated treatment model to adults with a range of mental health needs. The successful applicant will work closely with other doctors in the team and in other teams, for example recovery teams, community enhancing recovery team and assertive outreach team.
Forest Close is a 30 bedded intensive rehabilitation unit comprising 3 wards, a core office and recreation bungalow. There is a business case to increase service provision by having step down beds to support patient flow. The average length of stay is one year.

Training & Qualifications
Essential
- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
- Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practice.
- Certificate of Completion of Training in General Adult Psychiatry with an endorsement in rehabilitation (Higher trainees should be within six months of attainment at the time of the interview) or CESR equivalent.
- Inclusion on the Specialist Register or eligibility for inclusion
- Section 12 (2) MHA 1983 approved
- Approved Clinician (AC) status/approval and be on the AC register
Desirable
- MRCPsych or equivalent
- MD, Other professional qualification (e.g., MSc)
Knowledge & Skills
Essential
- Ability to deliver care in collaboration with service users and their families/carers.
- Effective leadership skills
- Ability to supervise junior medical staff & other staff
- Awareness of the funding arrangements in the NHS and recent NHS developments
- Ability to interpret published research and to apply research findings to clinical practice.
Desirable
- Experience of involvement in service development and/or reconfiguration
- Practical experience of research
