Job summary

Clinical Psychologist - 22.5 hours (3 days per week) - For those seeking full time employment there are other hours and days available in the department and other health & specialist areas

An exciting opportunity has arisen to deliver a Paediatric Psychology service within Rotherham Hospital, working with children and young people with long term conditions (including diabetes) and medically unexplained symptoms. Applicants will need to be registered with the HCPC as a Practitioner Psychologist (Clinical Psychologist) and have post qualification experience of working with children and enthusiasm for working in a paediatric setting.

Main duties of the job

To provide highly specialist psychological assessments of service users referred to the Paediatric Psychology service, based upon the appropriate use, interpretation and integration of complex data from a variety of sources including psychological and psychometric tests, self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with service users, family members and others involved in the person's care.

To formulate and implement plans for the formal psychological treatment and/or management of a service user's problems, based upon an appropriate conceptual framework of the person's problems, and employing methods based upon evidence of efficacy, across a full range of care settings.

About us

The postholder will work as a sole psychologist within the service, but with a range of support available. The post holder will be part of a strong Health and Medical Psychology Department at Sheffield Health and Social Care Foundation Trust which provides a range of services in Rotherham and Sheffield.

There are peer supervision and networking meetings with other psychologists working with children across services in Rotherham and a longstanding collaborative relationship with the Paediatric Psychology service at Sheffield Children's Hospital to give further opportunity for links with other psychologists. The Matron for Acute and Complex Care provides good ongoing support and a contact point for any operational matters.

This is a great opportunity to work within a service that are making improvements, and reflecting on practices, in line with improvement plans. Rotherham and Sheffield are on the edge of the Peak District National Park, with beautiful open spaces, hills, and reservoirs, and combine affordable living, low crime rates, access to a wide range of amenities, such as Meadowhall shopping centre, and a cultural hub.
