Job summary
We are seeking a motivated and committed Consultant Psychiatrist in our Substance Misuse Services.
Sheffield Treatment and Recovery Team (START) is a progressive, dynamic service which is part of Sheffield Health and Social Care NHS Foundation Trust. START delivers high quality and effective drug, alcohol, harm reduction and recovery services in Sheffield across two sites within the city centre. The service operates between the hours of 9:00 am and 8:00pm.
Main duties of the job
Referrals to START are managed through the Single Point of Access Referral process. Referrals are accepted from GPs, hospitals, self-referral, other agencies. All service users receive a Full Comprehensive Assessment which is undertaken by a nurse. Follow on care is provided by the same clinician alongside medical and other MDT members where appropriate.
There is a Trust strategy around the management of clients with Dual Diagnosis and the postholder will be expected to be closely involved with this work.
It is our intention, in the near future, to extend the provision of Addiction services to include Behavioural Addictions, including Gambling. An interest in these subjects would be desirable.

- Specialist assessment of alcohol use and dependence and its management
- Community detoxification
- We have access to specialist inpatient units based in Manchester and Doncaster under the regional consortium arrangements
- Active on-site community clinics
- Specialist consultation and liaison with local treatment services and teaching hospitals
- Liaison and advice to the locality general practitioners
- Work with other team members to develop clear stepped frameworks for the service in line with NICE guidelines
- Clinical supervision of junior medical staff, clinical staff, and medical students
- Active participation in undergraduate teaching/psychiatric trainees
- Clinical leadership/attendance at multi-disciplinary teammeetings
- Formulation and delivery of appropriate pharmacological and psychological interventions

- Experience to a level allowing recognition of trainer status by the Royal College of Psychiatrist.
