We are currently a small, close team who share similar values. We are a service in high demand, and we are expanding. We want 4 band 5/6 nurses to join us. We will offer ADHD training and there are opportunities to advance clinical skills through courses like non-medical prescribing. In return we are looking for someone with passion, dedication, willingness to learn and innovative ideas. This is a service that will go through significant changes, we need someone who can be adaptive to change.
Why is this a band 5/6? We don't want to rule out those with the right values, we welcome applications from newly qualified nurses and we can support your preceptorship needs. This can be a development role resulting in band 6 following training and acquirement of skills.
You will work with and alongside our service users, there will be expectations activity/contacts. This is one of our outcome measures, however we also see the value of dedicated time for supervision, training, and development. We can offer and assure you of protected time to do this.
Main duties of the job
We offer ADHD diagnostic assessments, reassessment of needs and treatment using ADHD medications. As a specialist service we initiate, titrate, monitor, and optimise medication. We aspire, to be more innovative and be a NICE compliant service. Therefore, we aim to offer alternative interventions.
This is a service user facing role offering assessments that contribute to the diagnostics. Therefore compassion, empathy, maintaining professional boundaries and effective interpersonal skills are essential. So is good record keeping.
You will need good knowledge of other mental health problems. At band 6 you will have a small caseload of service users for treatment. Prior experience of caseload management would be desirable. You need good time management skills, the ability to prioritise and produce outcomes assessments and paperwork in a timely manner.
You will triage a high volume of referrals; this requires accuracy, consistency and the ability to work within a set criterion. You will be involved in service improvement, teaching and training. You will have the opportunity to undertake clinical audits.
You will contribute to the expansion of offered interventions, this would include non-medication interventions. You will research best and write group material, deliver these interventions and review them.

- To undertake a comprehensive holistic ADHD assessment for adults with suspected ADHD. To undertake reassessment of needs for adults previously diagnosed with ADHD. To be able to ascertain if there are other co-morbidities.
- To offer ADHD medication follow up appointments under the supervision of more senior staff. This will include monitoring of treatment response and assessing of side effects (Band 6 only).
- To prescribe/titrate medication within a scope of practice once medication has been initiated by a senior clinician, once training has been undertaken by the post holder (Band 6 only).
- Assessment will also include consideration of impact, differential or co-occurring conditions and a risk assessment.
- Post-diagnostic advice, psychoeducation and support.
- To complete physical observations of service users as part of medication treatment (height, weight, blood pressure, pulse, ECGs and taking blood samples).
- To develop trusting therapeutic relationships with service users, their carers, and their families (where appropriate). To establish an effective therapeutic relationship that enables the communication and sharing of complex and sensitive information.
- The post holder will be responsible for ensuring high quality, accurate and timely recording on Trust electronic systems, of clinical information such as assessment, formulations, progress notes, care plans, risk assessments, outcomes, and discharge.
- The post holder will be responsible for making recommendations to the wider team and to referrers on additional assessment or interventions and skills required to deliver the plan of care and expected health/social outcomes which are evidenced based and lead to recovery and minimise risk.
- The post holder will be responsible for devising a management plan with each individual service user.
- Promote the involvement and engagement of clients/services users and carer relatives in the assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation of care.
