Sheffield Health and Social Care Trust (SHSC) is delighted to be able to advertise for a permanent Consultant Psychiatrist to join the Sheffield Perinatal Mental Health (PNMH) Service. SHSC is the lead provider in a partnership ICS service model with our fellow provider RDaSH (Rotherham, Doncaster, and South Humber Trust) and our charity partner Light Pre and Post Natal Support. This post will only work into Sheffield / SHSC.
Applicants must hold full registration with the General Medical Council and must be on or eligible to be on the specialist register in general adult psychiatry.
Main duties of the job
PNMH is a growing specialist service for women with mental health problems around the time of having a baby, and their families. This is an exciting development in the leadership of our service. You will need to be an experienced, suitably qualified, and registered Consultant Psychiatrist with a real passion for and commitment to NICE concordant perinatal mental health care. You should have attained a level of experience proportionate to the competencies detailed in the job description and possess the skills as detailed in the person specification. Relationships across the service and with key stakeholders (midwifery, health visiting, GPs, commissioners etc) are vitally important to us, and we are looking for a candidate with a skilled, reflective, and positive approach to building effective and collaborative working relationships.

This role will form a central part of the services leadership team who are collectively responsible for delivery on the requirements and ambitions for Perinatal Mental Health Services as laid out in the NHS Long Term Plan and within our commissioning arrangements. Supporting the governance and development of the service will be a core function of the role. We are looking for a consultant who meets the Trusts expectations around values, behaviours, and standards.
You will be responsible for helping to lead the Multi-Disciplinary team in further developing evidence based, trauma-informed assessment and treatment pathways to offer women and their families. We operate from biopsychosocial, and attachment orientated frameworks of understanding and medical leadership is a vital component of our service.
Additionally, the successful candidate may wish to develop a role within medical leadership, medical education, quality improvement or a special clinical interest and such development would be supported by the trust and be negotiated with the individual candidate.
We provide a flexible service that meets the needs of women and their families. Appointments are offered in several locations across the region and care is tailored to the needs of the families we work with. As we work with a clinical population who are more vulnerable to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, our ability and willingness to be flexible with regards where care is delivered is essential.
Additionally, there are some leadership activities and duties within this role, which require frequent attendance at the team base. Your application should indicate your understanding of these work role requirements. The trust has a range of policies and practices to help protect you at work.
Our operational hours are Monday to Friday 9am - 5pm. As our service provides urgent and emergency assessments, some flexibility with regards working hours may be needed on rare occasions to ensure patient safety.
