Job summary

The Clinical Operations Lead Pharmacist will provide strong leadership to the pharmacy workforce and ensure effective and safe operational management of pharmacy services. They will support the Associate Chief Pharmacist with the operational delivery of the Medicines Optimisation strategy for the NLFT and deputise for the Associate Chief Pharmacist when required. The Clinical Operations Lead Pharmacist will also support safe and effective medicines management across the trust and continuous improvement in medicines optimisation as an integral part of the Clinical Strategy. They will also support the Associate and Deputy Chief Pharmacists in the delivery of the strategic direction and ambitions set by the Chief Pharmacist.

Main duties of the job

o To support the Associate Chief Pharmacist in leading, developing, delivering and evaluating pharmacy services and medicine optimisation as delegated by the Chief and Deputy Chief Pharmacists.

o To be an active member of the Senior Pharmacy Management team with allocated management responsibilities.

o Provide leadership and maintain and improve standards of clinical pharmacy practice, quality assurance, risk management and other issues of clinical governance related to medicines optimisation.

o Be responsible for delivering the Medicines Optimisation Strategy.

o Provide leadership at a divisional level on medicines optimisation issues within the Trust.

o To hold a variety of clinical pharmacy responsibilities, including reviewing non-formulary requests.

  • Experience of working within multi-disciplinary teams
  • Up to date knowledge of legislation relevant to pharmacy practice, e.g. controlled drugs, Health and Safety at work
  • Significant experience of supervising and managing staff
  • Experience of training and educating healthcare staff from a variety of professions
  • Evidence of working without direct supervision and managing own workload
  • Experience of developing, implementing, monitoring and evaluating protocols, guidelines & policy
