The post offered is that of Emergency Psychiatrist for the Highgate Campus, Highgate Mental Health Centre West, Dartmouth Park Hill, London N19 5NX this is a 12 month fixed term locum (pending Royal College Approval for substantive recruitment) position in acute / emergency psychiatry for general adults and the older adult population.
This is a new and exciting post working flexibly and primarily across two exciting and award-winning new services on the Highgate campus. The services are; the newly established Mental Health Crisis Assessment Service (MHCAS) and the Health Based Place of Safety Service (HBPOS). The post holder will also work flexibly across liaison services and inpatient services within the Highgate Campus as needed
Main duties of the job
The Postholders will work closely with the other Emergency Consultants and the Hospital Division Clinical Director, Associate Clinical Director, service director, service manager and team managers to provide strategic clinical leadership to the multi-professional group and contribute to strategic direction of the unit and development of this care pathway.
The post holder will work flexibly across the Highgate campus and liaison services as directed by Clinical Director and Associate Clinical Director. This may include some work on the wards as needed or within the liaison teams as needed but will primarily work within the MHCAS and HBPOS services.
The Post-holder will provide day to day clinical leadership to an experienced Multi-disciplinary team. Both services are nurse led. This will include undertaking routine daily section 136/135 assessments in the HBPOS unit and senior medical reviews and MHAA's at MHCAS; liaising with emergency department liaison teams/medical staff (when patients move between the two services); providing brief clinical reports and handover information to inpatient ward staff prior to transfer of patients subsequently detained under the mental health act and providing clinical guidance to other team members as and when required. The post-Holder will participate in a daily team supervision/clinical handover de-briefing session for overnight on-call Core and Higher trainees (when handing over clinical responsibility to the team's medical team).

Essential
- Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) and a license to practice. Must be on the specialist register or within 6 months of gaining a Certificate of Completion of Training
- Membership of Royal College of Psychiatrists or equivalent higher qualification in psychiatry
- Specialist accreditation in General adult Psychiatry and / or Old Age psychiatry (Including CESR equivalent)
- Section 12(2) and Approved Clinician status (or eligibility) - qualifies to act as a Responsible Clinician
- Registered with Royal College of Psychiatrists CPD programme and in good standing
- Shared Services training up to date to be an approved trainer/clinical supervisor
