Clinical Specialist OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST Male PICU
Band 6, Hospital Division
Full time - permanent
We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced band 6 Occupational Therapist to join our Hospital Division Occupational and Arts Therapy team, based at Highgate Mental Health Centre and St Pancras Hospital: the male PICU is based at Highgate.
The post holder will have proven clinical skills to manage a complex caseload on the male PICU. Along with the MDT they will work to recovery principles with a community focus to support robust move on plans. Additionally, there will be responsibility for supervision of junior staff, some practice development and deputising for the band 7 team leaders. The post holder will have excellent planning and organisational skills including the ability to prioritise effectively. There are strong supervision processes in place, plus informal support and opportunities for training and development.
The post holder will work with other Arts Therapists and technical staff to provide a comprehensive Therapy programme for service users. They will be expected to ensure that their practice meets the requirements of this clinical service and is in keeping with current evidence based practices.

Main duties of the job
The post-holder will ensure that their practice meets the requirements of this clinical group, and assess the needs of service users with complex mental and physical health needs. This includes falls risk minimisation work and the issuing and provision of equipment, aids and minor adaptations.
The post-holder will ensure that their practice is in keeping with current evidence based practices, in accordance with the Royal College of Occupational Therapy Code of Ethics, and will work with OTs, Arts Therapists and activity workers to provide a comprehensive treatment programme for service users.
The post holder is expected to establish and maintain positive interpersonal relationships with other staff members characterised by trust, mutual respect, and open, honest communication.
The post-holder will have supervisory responsibility for junior staff, including a Band 5 OT and Band 3 ward Activity Worker, and student practitioners working in the unit. They will receive supervision and mentoring from a Band 7 Clinical Lead OT.
Although staff are allocated initially to work in one specific ward, all appointments are made to the Hospital Division, and there will be opportunity for further skill development within the Inpatient wards. The Hospital Division comprises of inpatient wards for working age adults who require acute treatment or rehabilitation and wards which specialise in the care of older adults.
