Job summary

As part of a newly funded initiative to offer an innovative, multi-disciplinary approach to meet the needs of substance using individuals that engage with the Criminal Justice pathway in Islington we are looking to recruit several key roles to join Islington Better Lives . These posts are designed to offer a responsive and proactive approach to working with this client group and improving their health, wellbeing and offending behaviour.

This post will be an active member of the Better Lives team and work along side the management group and take a proactive, outward facing role leading on building working relationships with our partners in Criminal Justice Services such as Police, Probation, Courts and Prisons and supporting the coordination of the CJ pathway .

Better Lives is a busy multi-disciplinary team providing a range of interventions for drug and alcohol using clients in Islington . We have an existing Criminal Justice pathway and specialism, and this role seeks to build on that work to enhance the pathway to allow increased capacity and responsiveness when working with this client group.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will lead the coordination of the criminal justice pathway, establishment, and evolution of this team as it aims to improve collaboration and joint working arrangements between prison healthcare and community-based treatment services, including in-reach into prison.

Your goal is to improve engagement post prison release and increase the likelihood of a prison leaver engaging in treatment and support services in the community. You will work alongside the management team as the Trust is the lead provider of Better Lives working in partnership with Humankind and VIA to ensure that the pathways meets its goals and develop opportunities for new ways of working and embedding the lessons learnt from this initiative.

The team will work jointly with Probation and IOM Officers to increase access and engagement with treatment. They will be flexibly deployed using an assertive outreach approach to work across the full range of criminal justice settings and provide a range of functions being co-located in relevant areas including assessments in police custody suites and courts, case management of individuals placed on DRRs/ATRs and those released from prisons.

You will build treatment capacity by delivering structured psychosocial interventions and this will include in the Probation setting. This post will be key in developing closer working relations with Probation and prisons to ensure that the substance using offenders they are working with benefit from this joint working model. This post will be instrumental in spearheading an assertive outreach approach with additional capacity that will help to improve outcomes for individuals.
