Job summary

We are looking for a Clinical Psychologists/ Counselling Psychologist with experience of working with adults with a range of mental health difficulties to join our dedicated and supportive Primary Care Mental Health Service in Kingston. You will be part of a well-established, successful service providing assessment and psychological interventions in primary care settings.

The service aim is to provide specialist support to primary care so that more people with complex mental health problems, including co-morbidities, can be managed in primary care, rather than being seen in secondary care services. This would include working with people who are difficult for primary care teams to manage, but do not meet thresholds for or find it difficult to access specialist, secondary care mental health services and who are not appropriate for IAPT services.

The post-holder will work at Kingston Primary Care Mental Health Team (PCMHT, a service providing mental health support to Kingston GP Practices). The post-holder will provide psychological assessment, treatment and offer advice and consultation on clients' psychological care to referrers, non-psychological colleagues and other, non-professional carers. You will act as coordinator of the service to designated GP practices and supervise designated staff in a sector of the service.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will help lead the implementation of primary care group interventions for people with personality disorder. You will be delivering the STEPPS intervention and Group Clinical interventions for people with Borderline Personality Disorder within Primary Care. You will also offer supervision to Apprentice Associate Psychologist and advice, consultation and training to other clinical colleagues as well as having the opportunity to contribute towards shaping and developing our service in partnership with our service users.

The post holder will be enthusiastic, committed and skilled clinicians who can work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team, to provide a range of clinical services and have experience of working with service users with complex mental health and behavioural needs; additionally to be familiar with the needs of a diverse BAME community.
