Job summary

The post holder will work as part of the multi-disciplinary team co-ordinate and develop Occupational Therapy input for service users on designated wards according to service needs. They will supervise and support junior staff and contribute to the provision of the Occupational and Arts Therapy Group Programme in conjunction with other members of the team, to meet the needs of the service users.

The post holder will provide a variety of group and individual treatments, promoting a recovery approach and social inclusion. He/she will provide assessments and treatment, on the ward, through the Therapy Group Programme and in community settings as appropriate. They will contribute to clinical evaluation and promote use of evidence based practice to inform service improvement.

The post holder will be managed by the OT Clinical Lead. The post holder will have supervisory responsibility for junior OT staff and student practitioners working in the unit. Although staff are allocated initially to work in one specific unit, all appointments are made to the Adult Mental Health Acute In-Patient Services.

We are looking for enthusiastic and experienced Band 6 Occupational Therapists to join our Inpatient Occupational and Arts therapy team, based at Highgate Mental Health Centre and St Pancras Hospital. There are wards across the two sites including one male and one female psychiatric intensive care unit (PICU), older adult and rehabilitation wards.

The post holder will have proven clinical skills in working with service users with complex needs including physical health and mobility issues. They will take on a clinical caseload and will work closely with the MDT to support recovery. Additionally, there will be responsibility for supervision of junior staff, deputising for the band 7 team leaders and elements of practice development. The team works to recovery principles with a community focus to support robust discharge plans.

The post holder will work with the team to provide a comprehensive off ward Therapy programme for service users. They will be expected to ensure that their practice meets the requirements of this clinical service and is in keeping with current evidence-based practices.
