Job summary

An opportunity has arisen for a permanent Band 6 Clinical Specialist Nurse based in Islington Assertive Outreach Team, located in the Angel area of Islington.

We are a busy multidisciplinary team comprised of nurses, occupational therapist, social Workers, assistant practitioners, a psychologist and psychiatrist's. Islington Assertive Outreach Team works closely to provide multi-disciplinary treatment to service users with psychosis. The team works to implement a recovery approach as one of the guiding principles of their way of working with service users. We work closely with individuals, their families, the local authority, London borough of Islington to provide support and treatment .

Main duties of the job

The successful post holder will act as care co-ordinator for a defined group of service users, you will be the named worker for an assigned caseload, the team also works closely together and offers a team approach to enable us to offer an excellent service to service users and carers. You will work with service users in their own home and in clinic and/or hospital settings. We also have a duty rota that supports service users open to Islington Assertive Outreach Team.

Other development activities include regular forensic and dual diagnosis consultation, regular supervision and participation in the training programme.

Job responsibilities

Working as a member of a multidisciplinary Mental Health or Substance Misuse Team the post holder will be responsible for providing individual assessment identified clinical interventions and direct care to service users with mental health problems. They will also undertake management tasks, deputising for the Team manager as required, and will take a lead on mentoring and supervising others within their service area.

As a nurse, occupational therapist or arts therapist the post holder will be responsible for ensuring that the team understands and operates to the requirements of the service operational policy and strategy, and that safe, evidence based, effective, culturally competent care is delivered in a timely manner to service users. They will contribute to governance and audit within the team, ensuring that team members are supported and developed to their potential and that new team members are comprehensively inducted and successfully integrated into the team.

The focus of the role will be that of individual assessment, intervention and evaluation of treatment, delivered within the framework of NICE guidelines, evidence based best practice and to maximise service users recovery and re-enablement.

They will be responsible for a defined caseload and they will formulate appropriate specific, highly specialist care and treatment plans; providing highly skilled and specialist interventions and care to service users with complex mental health problems. Care coordination may also form part of this role.

Experience

Essential

  • Demonstrable experience in a senior specialist capacity caring for people with mental health or substance misuse issues in a community care or inpatient setting
  • Demonstrate a sound knowledge and experience in relation to factors that cause mental illness or addictions together with evidence based best practice
  • Demonstrable experience of managing and leading others in a clinical/team setting
  • Demonstrate practical experience of supervision within a clinical context

Desirable

  • Experience of community clinics
  • Demonstrable experience of successfully managing service user placement budgets and or clinical budgets

Skills

Essential

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skill
  • Able to work autonomously and to deputise for senior staff in a variety of roles when required to do so

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Mental Health Nurse, Occupational therapist, Arts therapist or other allied health professional. (RGN is accepted for Substance Misuse services)
  • Current registration with relevant professional body
  • Current Level 1 Safeguarding Children and Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults certificates
  • Mentorship or recognised teaching and assessing certificate or willingness to undertake

Desirable

  • Other advanced relevant training i.e. CBT in psychosis/dynamics of mental health practice/Mentalisation Based Therapy etc
