Clinical/Counselling Psychologist in Maternal Mental Health Service

Information:

This job is now closed

Job summary

Clinical/Counselling Psychologists to work in our Maple Service, a new Maternal Mental Health Service (MMHS). This started as a "Fast Follower" pilot service for 1 year in April 2021, and is now being expanded. The service is designed to address some of the service gap in perinatal mental health services. Maple is supported by and works alongside specialist midwives and the Specialist Perinatal Mental Health Service, (SPMHS).

The Maple Service is for women whose trauma symptoms have a moderate to severe impact on their mental health. This may be due to a traumatic birth experience, pregnancy loss, neonatal death or the loss of a baby as a result of social care procedures due to safeguarding concerns. The trauma may also exist prior to conception, e.g. when tokophobia prevents a woman from achieving a wanted pregnancy. Although there may be overlap in service user population between Maple and SPMHS, women can be accepted by Maple without being pregnant or having their baby with them and fathers/partners are also eligible for the service.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will carry a complex caseload and ensure the formulation of profession-specific, specialist care/treatment plans which provide specialist interventions and care to service users with complex trauma/mental health conditions. They will be supervised by a 8a Clinical Psychologist in the Maple service. The post holder will ensure that Maple operates to the requirements of the service operational policy and service line strategy and that safe, evidence based, NICE concordant, effective, culturally competent care is delivered in a timely manner to service users.

The post holder will actively contribute to the planning, development and evaluation of the MMHS using advanced clinical leadership skills and knowledge to provide training and consultancy in clinical psychology within the trauma focussed specialty of perinatal mental health. Establishing and consolidating secure working relationships and pathways with other colleagues and services (e.g. IAPT and PIPS in addition to those mentioned above) is key.

About us

Maple works alongside the North London Partners SPMHS, which is a community mental health service for pregnant and postnatal women with severe and complex mental illness. The aim of the team is to detect, prevent and treat perinatal mental health problems to improve the experience of pregnancy and the first 2 years postpartum for women and their families. The service has been running since 2017 and provides specialist perinatal mental health services across the boroughs of Camden, Islington, Barnet, Enfield and Haringey. The service divides into three sub-teams:-West Team (Barnet), East Team (Enfield & Haringey) and South Team (Camden & Islington).

The Maple Service is at present based with the East Team of SPMHS and the corresponding maternity sites, North Middlesex University Hospital and the Whittington Hospital, for women who live in Enfield and Haringey. This exciting next phase of development sees the service expand into Barnet and work with the West Team and the corresponding maternity sites, Barnet General Hospital and the Royal Free Hospital.
