This is an exciting opportunity for a full time clinical or counselling psychologist with experience both in working with adults with Learning Disabilities and managing other clinicians to be the lead for the Clinical Psychology team at Camden Learning Disability Service (CLDS).
CLDS is a forward thinking, fully integrated health and social care team whose dedicated staff and service providers have recently been award the prestigious accolade of Learning Disability Team of the Year by the Royal College of Psychiatrists. We are a well-resourced service, and are passionate about delivering high quality support to adults with global learning disabilities and their networks. We are a multidisciplinary team consisting of psychiatry, psychology, nursing, occupational therapy, speech & language therapy and physiotherapy and we pride ourselves on our high levels of collaboration, working alongside social work and specialist support worker teams
CLDS further provides services to both Camden and non-Camden learners within Alexandra Centre for Further Education, a college facility for young people aged 16 to 25 who present with severe learning disabilities.
We are located beside King's Cross and St Pancras stations and enjoy the benefits of a modern building with many of our day provisions and residential services being a short walk away. We further benefit from an onsite IT department with walk-in clinics.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will manage the clinical service provision within the vibrant and well-established psychology team, which consists of clinical and counselling psychologists, trainee psychologists, an assistant psychologist and honorary undergraduate psychology placement students.
The Psychology team provides skilled psychological assessments, including autism diagnostics and complex neuropsychology assessments, and psychosocial interventions including CBT, systemic, PBS, EMDR to adults with learning disabilities in Camden.
The successful candidate will also work closely with the CLDS management team, and actively design and implement service development projects. The service works closely with provider organisations and the lead psychologist further oversees psychology staff providing assessments and intervention to young adult learners at our Alexandra Centre for Further Education site.
The successful candidate will also have the opportunity further to develop our close relationships with UCL, RHUL and UEL clinical training courses, and will be able to access the CPD programme provided by the trust's learning and development department, including specialist psychology CPD.

- To provide psychological assessments of referred clients, using interview, formal psychometric and other assessment methods as appropriate.- To formulate and devise individualised psychological treatment and management plans for referred clients with a range of problems of severity and complexity, including those with challenging behaviours, and to provide psychological treatment for such clients, using a range of psychological interventions appropriate to the service and the needs of the individual client.- To provide psychological advice, guidance and consultation to other professionals, to assist in the formulation, diagnosis and treatment of clients, particular those with complex or high risk presentations.- To provide reports and communicate in a skilled and sensitive manner concerning the assessment, formulation and treatment plans of clients.- To liaise with other health and social care staff, from a range of agencies, in the care provided to clients.
- To provide professional and clinical supervision of clinical and counselling psychologists, other psychological therapists as relevant, and in conjunction with other permanent psychologists supervision of trainees, graduates and undergraduates and psychological therapy staff.- To ensure that the work of all members of the Psychological Therapies service is adequately governed via managerial, professional and clinical supervision.- To provide advice, consultation, training and supervision, where appropriate, to other health and social care staff working with the client group.
- To act as the manager for the Camden Learning Disabilities Service (CLDS) Psychological Therapies service, being responsible for coordination and management of that service provision within CLDS.- To manage the CLDS Psychological Service staff within the sector and to be responsible for their appraisal and continuing professional development, both conducting appraisals for direct line managed staff and ensuring that they are conducted for lower grades.- To propose and develop procedures and policies for service provision within CLDS, taking account of policies for Trust services as a whole and the need to ensure good working practice within London Borough of Camden (LBC, ie the local authority).- To develop the psychological service provision at Alexandra Centre for Higher Education (ACFHE) taking into account local agreements for service provision and partnership working with other local authorities who send learners to attend the college.- To monitor and audit service provision, ensuring practice meets best professional and evidence-based standards.
- To liaise with GPs, mental health service managers, other senior clinicians and managers in health, social care and non-public sector (e.g. external care providers, advocacy groups) in delivery and development of psychological therapies and, by agreement with the Senior Service Manager, wider CLDS service provision.- To lead on the development of an agreed areas of service or practice across the Trusts services for people with learning disabilities (e.g. in-patient services, Memory Clinic, use of mainstream services by people with learning disabilities).
