Job summary

We know that half of all mental health conditions are established before the child turns 14, and we know that early intervention can prevent problems escalating and have major societal benefits. Transforming children's and young peoples mental health provision: a green paper puts schools and colleges at the heart of our efforts to intervene early and prevent problems escalating.

Bradford have been chosen to develop and expand the mental health support teams, working within school and educational settings with both teaching staff and young people. The senior mental health practitioner post will work with the team to support staff within the whole system including Voluntary Care Services, Local Authority, education and health to identify services most appropriate to support young people depending on their present situation.

Main duties of the job

To act as an interface between staff working in all emotional mental health services providing liaison, assessment, training and consultation regarding the emotional and psychological wellbeing of children and young people.

To work with these staff in carrying out joint assessments and to provide brief interventions with individual clients as required.

The post holder will be expected to support schools and educational facilities to identify emotional mental health issues and find appropriate support to both teaching staff and students.

The actual distribution of workload within these areas will depend on the demands of the service by agreement with the Clinical lead
