Job summary

We are looking for motivated nurses to work within the Health Visiting (0-5) service. You will be solution focused and adaptable to change and able to work both autonomously and part of an integrated skill mix team. You will possess good organisational skills and be able to support other team members to deliver mandated contacts and provide early, public health education and support to our service users. You will be able to form good working relationships with other members of the multi-disciplinary team and possess excellent communication skills.

After an initial period within the staff nurse role, we are looking for keen individuals who share ambition to further develop their career in public health nursing, to support them to access further qualification opportunities, relevant to the School Nurse and Health Visitor roles (Specialist Community Public Health Nurse qualification).

Main duties of the job

1. Job Purpose:The post holder will work as part of a 0-19 Children's Services team and will be integrated and co-located with the Local Authorities Prevention and Early Help team, delivering services within an integrated care pathway.Under the supervision of the Health Visitor/School Nurse the post holder will support the delivery of the Healthy Child Programme within a progressive universal model of service delivery dependant on assessed needs.Using best available evidence, the post holder will work in partnership with key partners and communities to deliver targeted interventions to improve the health and wellbeing of children, young people and families to address health inequalities, especially in those from disadvantaged groups.

This is a 0-5 service that is evolving and currently undergoing some exciting service changes and progression. There is a focus on integrated working with local authority partners and a whole team approach to providing early support to children and young people living within the Bradford and Airedale district. We are pro-active public health practitioners who work closely with children and families ranging from 0-5years, to support them in making healthy lifestyle choices and accessing other specialist services to meet their child's health needs. We are committed to the delivery of the Healthy Child Programme and ensuring our service delivery is of high quality and research based.

We are also involved in several new projects to support the public health agenda both with our local authority partnerships and with Public Health England. This is an exciting time to be joining the service as we are piloting the MECSH (Maternal Early Childhood Sustained Home Visiting) programme in the health visiting service in one locality of Bradford, the Better Start area covering Bradford East. This is a demanding specialist role requiring high levels of professional skills and practice which will all be enhanced by ongoing training regarding the delivery of MECSH and supported by MECSH Supervision. The MECSH (Maternal Early Childhood Sustained home visiting service add link) is a licensed preventative / early intervention programme for identified families. It has been developed in Australia and has been rolled out in some sites in the UK. Bradford is the first site in Northern England to trial this programme.
