Job responsibilities

Work as part of the Multidisciplinary Team at the Child Development Centre. In particular to address the needs of children being assessed as part of the Teams Neurodiversity Pathway.

Identify, assess and differentially diagnose communication impairments and select appropriate patients and type of therapy for effective treatment.

Use highly specialist clinical skills to manage a specialist caseload of children with ASD and other special needs.

To use clinical skills to generate written reports and care plans, reflecting specialist Knowledge.

Collaborate with the wider SLT team and community Paediatric service in developing pathways and intervention development in the area of Autism and neurodevelopmental difficulties.

To present and communicate complex condition related information in such a manner as to motivate and inform patients, carers, families and members of the multi-disciplinary team/other professions, agreeing decision -making relevant to patient management.

To use good interpersonal skills to listen well and counsel patients and carers, so providing support and empathy without prejudice.

To represent the Service in the multidisciplinary workings of the Childrens assessment Centre to include joint assessments, report writing and contribution to care plans.

Have a specialist advisory role for the Trust in this specialty area, giving service wide second and expert opinions.

Take responsibility for and participate in service wide developments as appropriate.

Independently take students on placement for clinical teaching and supervision, including exam placement.

Take a clinical leadership role for qualified and unqualified staff working at lower grades and volunteers.

Person Specification

Qualifications and Training

Essential

• Recognised S< Degree or equivalent HCPC registration Evidence of Completion of relevant post graduate courses/training

Desirable

• ADOS trained
• Member of relevant CEN

Experience

Essential

• Relevant experience as qualified SLT in the specialist field.
• Evidence of working in a multi-disciplinary team
• Demonstrates a well-established knowledge of a range of clinical disorders, assessments and appropriate therapeutic interventions in specialist field; including management of children with social communication difficulties
• Experience of participating in diagnostic assessment
• Good oral communication skills based on fluency on the English language
• Experience of delivering training to parents and professionals
• Relevant clinical experience in working with children and young people with a range of Neuro developmental conditions including Autism and ADHD

Desirable

• Experience of carrying out supervision and appraisals.

• Able to plan, organise and prioritise own workload, clinical and non-clinical
• Knowledge of educational and clinical issues/developments relating to children with ND needs
• Inclusive approach, promoting involvement and engagement
• Able to communicate effectively with patients with communication problems where difficulties in understanding exist, using observation, listening and empathy.
• Able to work independently and as part of a team
