Job summary

Are you an experienced Speech and Language Therapist looking to develop your leadership skills?

This is an exciting development role for the right person with an interest in professional development. We want our Newly Qualified practitioners to thrive and that is where you come in!

The Clinical Development Lead, will create an effective working model and provide one-to-one and group facilitation/supervision of clinical skills to all NQPs in the service and support to line managers and preceptors.

They will also work as part of the mainstream schools programme in Central Bedfordshire or Luton providing assessment and interventions for children in schools.

Main duties of the job

The development of an evidence-based preceptorship framework forclinical and non clinical skills for NQP's

Outlining a gradual structuring of establishing competencies, giving time frames and the anticipated support needed.

Develop a consistent approach to supervision and training for NQP's

One-to-one supervision based on the individual needs of the NQP using an errorless learning approach.

Support the clinical work within the mainstream school's programme in Central Beds and Luton - working with whole schools to support SLCN for all children in line with the graduated response to need.

To independently manage a caseload of pre-school and school age children who have speech, and language communication difficulties.

Job responsibilities

  1. Responsibility for induction and supervision of several NQTs within the community team
  2. Serve as a role model, empower, support and give guidance to the NQTs for a fixed period of time
  3. Development of clinical and non-clinical skills and competencies for Newly qualified therapists.
  4. Ensure that preceptorship is integrated with professional standards, supervision, continuing professional development (CPD), and core clinical competencies (HEE, 2015).
  5. Undertake appraisal and performance management for NQTs.
  6. Support the clinical work within the mainstream schools programme in Central Beds and Luton working with whole schools to support SLCN for all children in line with the graduated response to need.
  7. To independently manage a caseload of pre-school and school age children who have speech, and language communication difficulties.
  8. To support the community team lead in identifying local priorities for caseload and workforce management within the locality.
  9. To identify gaps in local provision and report/escalate concerns to community lead and service manager as appropriate.
  10. To undertake a range of assessments, both standardised and non-standardised, taking account of medical, social and educational factors, which combined with highly specialist theoretical knowledge will lead to differential diagnosis.
  11. To plan, deliver and evaluate highly specialist intervention following professional guidelines and agreed service standards
  12. As part of that process, to plan appropriate long term and short term goals working towards discharge
  13. To undertake administrative duties connected with the caseload including maintenance of case notes and provision of written reports, following service standards
  14. To ensure that all work is carried out in close collaboration with all those involved in childrens care so that the approach to intervention and support is co-ordinated and comprehensive
  15. To make onward referral as appropriate
  16. To identify any variations to service delivery or demands and inform the Community team lead of the likely impact on the service.
