An exciting opportunity has arisen to become part of our UNICEF Baby Friendly accredited Baby Friendly team to continue the promotion, protection and support of breastfeeding across Bedfordshire.
The Baby Friendly team sits within the 0-19 service and works collaboratively to support the Healthy Child Programme.
The successful candidate will work as part of this small team to support the ongoing breastfeeding training and auditing for all staff that work with mothers, babies and young children; support the Bedfordshire Breastfeeding Buddy volunteers, Baby Brasserie provision and work with clients directly to support feeding.
You must have excellent communication skills, be proficient at delivering formal presentations and have an ability to work both within a team and independently. You will be expected to collaborate and communicate with partner agencies.
The team are based at Flitwick Clinic however the candidate will need to be able to travel across Bedfordshire.
Main duties of the job
Under the direction of the UNICEF Baby Friendly Coordinator the post holder will support them in ensuring the achievement and maintenance of full UNICEF Baby Friendly Initiative accreditation.
The post will involve supporting the facilitation of the in-house breastfeeding courses, antenatal parent education, audit, coordinating breastfeeding support groups across the county and assisting with the management of the Peer Supporters and coordination of Peer Supporter activities.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Provide assessment and provision for supporting women with complex feeding issues.
Work with the BF team to ensure annual delivery of Breastfeeding and relationship training and any other relevant courses for all staff groups.
Participate in the facilitation of the antenatal parent education course in collaboration with local partners for example: Children Centre and midwife.
Contribute to the recruitment, training and supervision of breastfeeding volunteers.
Undertake regular UNICEF Baby Friendly audit to ensure compliance to the Baby Friendly standards.
Develop and implement projects to increase the incidence and prevalence of breastfeeding in Bedfordshire.

Ensure that Provider Services & their premises comply with the WHO Code of Marketing of Breastmilk Substitutes & remain compliant with the principles of the UNICEF Baby Friendly Initiative.
Work within the framework of the local Safeguarding Children guidelines to promote the health and safety of all children in partnership with parents.
Ensure NHS Bedfordshire policies, guidelines and protocols are adhered to and reflected in day to day practice.
Ensure all incidents and accidents are reported appropriately in line with SEPT policy.
Undertake lone client consultations under the direction of the UNICEF Baby Friendly Coordinator in order to deliver a planned intervention, e.g. to provide advice and support regarding breastfeeding.
Any other reasonable duties as directed by the UNICEF Baby Friendly Coordinator.
