This is an extremely exciting time to be working within iCaSH Bedfordshire. As the demand for our service grows, we are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Health Care Assistant, with a strong team-working ethic to join our team. Previous experience in sexual health is desirable but relevant training will be provided.

You will be an enthusiastic, proactive individual who has the ability to communicate in an inclusive style, with excellent interpersonal skills, a commitment to delivering outstanding patient care and the ability to handle sensitive information.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will support the delivery of healthcare for patients attending the integrated contraception and sexual health (iCaSH) service which is part of Cambridgeshire Community Services (CCS).

This may include the supporting of patients who present with sexually transmitted infections, HIV/AIDS, contraception requirements and/or any other sexual health related problems

Job description

Job responsibilities

To welcome patients and obtain relevant personal and clinical details as appropriate treating all such information as confidential.

Following training, and once signed off as competent, to act as a chaperone and assist nurses/doctors to undertake intimate examinations/procedures and/or sexual health screening on patients.

To provide basic advice and information to patients who attend the department and to those who are diagnosed with a sexually transmitted infection/HIV or require contraception advice, risk reduction advice and condom demonstration.

Prepare clinic rooms prior to commencement of clinic sessions by ensuring the relevant equipment/supplies are available that clinic rooms are appropriately prepared prior to the commencement of each clinic and undertake tidying and general housekeeping duties within the clinics.

Following training, and once signed off as competent, perform identified tests for patients.

To undertake non-clinical duties in support of the admin team, for example undertake reception cover including registering patients and booking, support data collection and or general patient and non-patient administration.

Hold the Care Certificate and deliver the associated standards of care, or undertake the training within the first six months of appointment into post.

To provide a phlebotomy service for patients attending the services.

To support and direct patients to the relevant individuals/agencies whilst accessing health care.

To participate in outreach and health promotion events when requested.

To undertake in regular appraisal of work and clinical supervision throughout the year.

To be non-judgemental to all client groups regardless of age/ethnicity/religion.

To maintain and update promotional boards within patient waiting area.

To undertake non-clinical duties in support of the admin team, for example undertake reception cover including registering patients and booking, support data collection and or general patient and non-patient administration.

Register and issue C-card and condoms.

Undertake, read and interpret microscopy slides as directed by clinicians and appropriately document and communicate the associated findings or willingness to undertake training.
