Job summary

We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Improvement and Transformation Specialist to join our talented Improvement and Transformation team. Our team leads transformation of clinical pathways, processes and systems to improve the quality, efficiency and effectiveness of the health services in the local communities we serve.

A suitable base will be agreed with the post holder within Bedfordshire, Luton or Cambridgeshire however reasonable travel will be expected across the organisational footprint which includes Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Milton Keynes, Norfolk and Suffolk. We have a flexible working approach which also includes working from home.

This role will primarily focus on working with our clinical teams to lead transformation projects and programmes to improve care for our patients. The post holder will deploy best practice in transformational change and project management to scope, manage, and report the successful delivery of individual projects and defined small programmes in line with our Trust's Think QI methodology. Travel to other areas of the organisation may be required to support projects/programmes where extra resource is needed.

You will need proven experience in managing the complex dynamics recognised in delivering transformational change projects to deliver the desired outcome, whilst enabling a positive experience for all stakeholders.

Main duties of the job

The Improvement and Transformation Specialist will manage the simultaneous delivery of a range of commissioned sub-programmes, projects and pieces of work in line with the organisation's strategic priorities.

The immediate focus for this role will be to work collaboratively with system partners on implementing virtual wards across Luton and Bedfordshire.

The Improvement and Transformation Specialist will use a broad and deep technical expertise in continuous improvement tools and techniques (Lean, Six Sigma) alongside the Trust's Think QI methodology to define operational and performance problems, analyse complex data and qualitative information to measure and understand the problem and identify improvement opportunities. Designing solutions to test/pilot with stakeholders, creating robust implementation plans to facilitate a successful project delivery.

The Improvement and Transformation Specialist will be dynamic in their approach and style, have highly developed communication skills, exercise sound judgement and excellent initiative skills working independently and collaboratively with others to address challenging issues.

  • The Improvement and Transformation Specialists prime responsibility is to lead the successful delivery of complex and ambiguous projects/sub-programmes and improvements which lead to better service user outcomes, experience or improve organisational effectiveness. Identifying the appropriate improvement approach and governance framework from rapid improvement sprints, complex troubleshooting deep dives to larger scale projects or sub-programmes of work.
  • To provide senior support and coaching to the Improvement and Transformation Practitioners and Improvement and Transformation Support Officers advising on continuous improvement tools/techniques/approaches and assisting with the resolution of issues.
  • To provide a consultation and advice approach to colleagues about tools and strategies to apply when undertaking continuous improvement.
  • To support the Improvement and Transformation Lead, deputising when required, ensuring areas of work are managed to the required quality standard, for example - project documentation is completed within deadlines and to a good standard.
  • To support the delivery of the Trusts Think QI methodology through the design and delivery of training, facilitating events and sessions and coaching colleagues building organisational change capability.
  • To be responsible for all day-to-day decisions relating to the management of allocated projects/initiatives, including resources and skills required, implementation of project controls, making recommendations on changes to the specifications, budgets and schedules to the Improvement and Transformation Lead.
  • To develop and implement plans for project delivery, monitor progress and adjust plans as necessary to take any changes into account.
  • To identify and support projects/task and finish groups allocated to the Improvement and Transformation Practitioners and Improvement and Transformation Support Officers To establish, run and monitor project, working and specific task and finish groups to ensure all tasks are completed.

  • To examine causes of delays in meeting planned project targets and work to resolve the obstacles identified.

  • To prepare and deliver regular progress reports, including detailed analysis of variances with planned expectations for the relevant Project Sponsor/Improvement and Transformation Lead.
