Job summary
Dental HealthCare Cambridgeshire aims to deliver high quality dental care in a patient centred environment and dental public health work within the community.
- We offer comprehensive treatment for vulnerable groups subject to their meeting the service eligibility criteria which includes children with social, behavioural and emotional problems, adults with physical and learning disabilities or complex medical problems and disadvantaged groups such as those whose disabilities mean that they need to be seen in a domiciliary setting. This may involve the additional use of sedation or general anaesthesia when appropriate. Some of these patients may exhibit challenging behaviour
- We also offer emergency dental treatment within normal working hours.
Dental Access: the post holder will be expected to undertake a dual role and will deliver care to both vulnerable groups and to patients accessing the emergency dental service.
Main duties of the job
To deliver dental treatment and preventive care to the community of Cambridgeshire. This includes vulnerable groups, patients who are unable to attend the surgery and patients wishing to access emergency care.

Job responsibilities
- Undertakes thorough examination and assessment of patient. This may be delivered in a clinic or on a domiciliary basis.
- Plans and manages care for a range of patients. Plans, develops, implements, and evaluates programmes to prevent disease and promote health in target groups within the population.
- Can identify commonly occurring medical emergencies and lead the dental team in the appropriate first line management of the emergency, using appropriate techniques, equipment and drugs. Keeps up to date with developments in this area.
- Uses appropriate local anaesthetic and patient management approaches to control pain and anxiety during dental treatment. This may include the use of inhalation sedation.
- May be required to undertake dental care to patients under General Anaesthetic in a hospital setting.
- Undertakes the diagnosis, selection of appropriate periodontal techniques and delivery of periodontal care in an effective way
- Routine exodontias and/or simple surgical exodontias.
- Undertakes appropriate assessment of patients to determine the need for specialist advice.
- Undertakes appropriate investigations during the patient examination to determine the need for specialist advice.
- Undertakes the diagnosis, selection of appropriate restorative technique and delivery of restoration or replacement of teeth in an effective way.
- Management of, in a clinical capacity, dental therapists/ dental nurses as required.
- Produce and maintain accurate patient records, complete the necessary NHS forms, collect patient charges in accordance with NHS regulations.
- Meet the service targets for meet RTT waiting times and KPIs.
