Job summary

Vacancy available for either a Band 6 CNS Sexual Health or a Band 5 Associate CNS Sexual Health based at Abbey View Clinic, Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk

iCaSH Suffolk deliver Level 3 Contraception and GU services and an Outreach service delivered by our partners, Terrence Higgins Trust

We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Registered Nurse with a strong team-working ethic to join our team.

The successful candidate will ideally be an experienced Sexual Health Nurse trained in either GUM or Contraception. However, we will also consider Band 5 Registered Nurses wanting to undertake a progressive training opportunity in sexual health and are willing to undertake the relevant training to achieve a Band 6 role.

You will be an enthusiastic, proactive individual who has the ability to communicate in an inclusive style, with excellent interpersonal skills, a commitment to delivering outstanding patient care and the ability to handle sensitive information.

The role will include working an evening till 8pm once a week and one early start from 7.30am

Main duties of the job

Provide specialised advice for patients within sexual health services.

Carry out complex clinical assessment to aid differential diagnoses for sexual and reproductive health problems and plan and deliver evidence based care and treatment.

Perform contraceptive or sexual health examinations and procedures as required or clinically indicated to aid differential diagnosis.

To fit and remove LARC where appropriately trained, or undertake training where required or appropriate.

Ensure understanding of and stress the importance of any medical treatment indicated and to describe and explain testing and follow-up procedures. Interpret results and act accordingly.

To provide effective partner notification to ensure attendance and testing/treatment of partners at risk,

To work with patients to assess risk and to provide information about and discussion of risk taking behaviour and risk reduction.

To assess whether patients have other concerns and to follow up with appropriate signposting and/or referral as required.

Provide appropriate contraceptive advice and methods to ensure an integrated approach.

To independently assess, plan and evaluate programmes of care with use of Patient Group Directions (PGDs)

To be competent in the management of under 18 year olds and vulnerable adults working within Fraser Guidelines and mental capacity assessments.

To perform phlebotomy

To take telephone enquiries from the general public and health care professionals about sexually transmissible infections including HIV, Hepatitis B/C and all contraceptive queries. To discuss risk and respond appropriately to those who are anxious within level of competence, referring to a senior staff where appropriate

To record interventions accurately and concisely in client case notes and keep confidential records for the purposes of partner notification.

Adapt communication and language to suit patient group/audience and to establish good working relationships with key stakeholders.

To liaise with and exchange information with other Sexual Health Services as relevant for the management of patients/clients.

Work collaboratively with all Cambridgeshire Community Services to ensure a corporate approach.
