Job summary

This is a trainee role within the Improving Access to Psychological Therapies Programme in Dudley. The post-holder will work within an established IAPT service providing high volume low intensity interventions whilst undertaking an apprenticeship programme of training for this role.

The training post will equip the post-holder to provide a range of low intensity Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) based self-management interventions to clients at Step 2, with mild to moderate anxiety and depression across a range of media.

This will be delivered on a 1 to 1 or group basis via telephone, video or face to face. The role is based across the Dudley borough and travel will be required between sites where necessary, and the working week split will be subject to service need.

Main duties of the job

  • To provide comprehensive assessments and treatments for clients presenting with common mental health problems using evidence-based psychological principles and working within the context of primary care services.
  • Assessing clients' suitability for IAPT treatment modalities. To make decisions on suitability of new referrals into the service, and refer/signpost clients on to other relevant services or back to the referral agent as necessary.
  • Offer patients a choice of treatment pathways available based on a stepped care model approach and NICE guidance. This may include: watchful waiting, guided self-help, computerised CBT, psycho-education groups, low intensity CBT, or high intensity psychological interventions.

We have exciting new training opportunities for self-motivated Apprentice Psychological Wellbeing Practitioners (PWPs) to join an established and successful Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) service on a permanent basis (pending successful qualification) to cover the next training year. All successful applicants will be required to apply for and be selected for the Apprenticeship in Low Intensity Psychological Interventions qualification provided by Staffordshire University. Following successful completion of this course, trainees will be eligible for Qualified PWP posts.

  • Work in partnership with GPs and other health care professionals to ensure appropriate referrals.

  • Be aware of and keep up to date with changes in the treatment for common mental health problems.
