Job summary

As part of the DIHC safeguarding team, the Lead Named Nurse will be a key leader and will be responsible for the delivery and monitoring of safeguarding procedures. This will include the provision of specialised advice and expert knowledge/training to staff, peers, other professionals, and multi-agency partners on all aspects of safeguarding and deputising for the Head of Safeguarding.

We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic Registered Nurse with a Specialist Public Health qualification who has a broad knowledge of safeguarding at all levels and has experience of working within the arena of Local Safeguarding Partnerships. Proven extensive experience of working as a Named Nurse would be essential.

The successful candidate will have the ability to liaise with staff at all levels and work effectively as part of a team but will have excellent leadership qualities and be able to work autonomously. The post holder must be passionate about safeguarding and possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Main duties of the job

For an extensive list of main duties for this post please refer to the attached job description however to provide insight into this role you could be expected to undertake the following:

  • To be highly visible, providing sound expert safeguarding advice, support and clinical expertise to Dudley Integrated Health and Care NHS Trust (DIHC) staff in all areas of safeguarding children and
  • To act as a role model demonstrating effective leadership and political awareness on a daily basis and promote Trust
  • To provide expert safeguarding consultancy and advice to Trust staff to support the delivery of excellent safeguarding practice.
  • To lead and co-ordinate the Named Nurses for Safeguarding within the Trust
  • To support the development and implementation of a strategic approach to safeguarding including those who are vulnerable, those subject to consideration under the Mental Health Act, the Mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards/Liberty Protection
  • To be accountable and responsible for standards of safeguarding practice within the Trust; to evaluate safeguarding practice and develop actions with relevant Heads of Service where
  • To work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team and partner agencies to ensure that children and adults who come into contact with the Trust are safeguarded and their welfare
  • To lead on the development of appropriate safeguarding training, education and supervision for all staff groups.

  • Current NMC registration
  • Registered Nurse/ Community Public Health Practitioner
  • Educated to Degree level
  • Educated to Master's level in relevant subject or relevant experience
  • Level 4 safeguarding training
