Consultant in Community Paediatrics (neurodevelopment)

Job summary
The post holder's main objective would be to provide medical input to the neurodevelopment team who provide assessment and treatment for children and young people of school age with autistic spectrum disorders and ADHD. This will include completing assessments, providing consultation to other professionals, overseeing multidisciplinary treatment plans and appropriately prescribing medication if required.
In particular, they would be expected to assess complex cases such as:
- where there is a significant risk of self-harm, harm to others or risk of neglect
- where there is diagnostic uncertainty or complexity
- where the interaction of potential illness and personality factors needs to be evaluated.
Main duties of the job
The main responsibilities of the role will include:
- The role includes general community paediatrics outpatient clinics, child developmental assessment including assessment for neurodevelopmental conditions and health promotion.
- The post holder will contribute to specialist clinics for neurodevelopmental disorders.
- This role includes the assessment for children with suspected Autism and contribution to the wider pre-school age MDT and with scope to develop the role with specialist interest in neurodevelopmental disorders.
- The post holder is responsible for Care plan and treatment formulation, guidance on evidence-based treatment and effectiveness which includes the liaison with statutory authorities regarding SEND, CIC, child protection and child death in accordance with holistic care and best practice.
- There is an in hours on-call rota for child protection physical abuse medical assessments and contribution to formulating risk with the multiagency team for Coventry and Rugby.
- Multi-disciplinary, multi-agency and partnership working.
- The post holder will join the consultant team in the leadership of the directorate in the delivery of clinical care of children, and be an active part in the ongoing service transformation which will includer the development of new integrated clinical pathways.
- The post holder will have a role within the team for assessment of referrals, with attendance at triage meetings and or individual triage.
