Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen to apply for this well-established role as an Occupational Therapy Assistant Practitioner to join our friendly and supportive team. We're looking to recruit an enthusiastic, dynamic, self-motivated individual, willing and able to work towards the Assistant Practitioner qualification and who would like to develop their skills in learning disabilities working with Occupational Therapists (OTs). The postholder will work alongside and under the supervision of experienced OTs who are able to provide support and clinical direction to them.
The successful applicant will be willing to develop their skills and knowledge around working with people with a Learning Disability who may also be Autistic. They will be passionate to take on new challenges and innovative in helping to support the service to help prevent inappropriate admissions to specialist hospitals due to mental ill-health and or behaviours that may challenge. Experience of working in either a health or social care community or an in-patient setting is essential.
Personal qualities will need to include resilience and flexibility and willingness to work collaboratively with colleagues within the patient's care pathway considering the complex, varied and often challenging client group.
Main duties of the job
We have a well-established AHP service across our directorates and services. Regular clinical supervision from the Occupational Therapist will be provided to the successful post holder. Peer supervision and CPD workshops also support this role both within the IST and within the wider community learning disability OT team. Other in-house learning opportunities and training and development are available to further enhance knowledge, skills and confidence in working with our client group and will provide the opportunity for you to develop lots of transferable skills.
The team base is currently in Coventry and the IST covers both Coventry and Warwickshire and works in an innovative and flexible way. The role requires travel across the entire geographical area of the Trust. Applicants must have access to reliable transport and hold a valid UK driving license.
