B5 RNLD /RSCN Children's respite - Learning disabilities

We are looking for a professional, enthusiastic & flexible nurse to join our dedicated team at Lyndon House. Our service provides high-quality care & support to children with learning disability, complex health needs & / or behaviours of concern, giving families and children much needed respite.

In this role you will gain a diverse range of clinical, managerial, & professional skills & will have a child-centred approach. As the service provides overnight care, you will be required to work shifts as part of a 24-hour rota.

Main duties of the job

A Band 5 nurse within children's respite has a range of responsibilities, these include:

  • Develop, implement and regularly review personalised care plans to ensure they meet the child's evolving needs.
  • Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to coordinate holistic care.
  • Document care plans accurately, ensuring they align with best practices and service policies.
  • Delivering safe, evidence-based nursing care to children with complex health needs
  • Identify potential risks to the child's health, safety, and well-being within the respite setting.
  • Conduct and update risk assessments, implementing appropriate measures to minimise hazards.
  • Administering medications, treatments, and procedures inline with policies and clinical guidelines.
  • Monitor and assessing children's health, responding to any changes in their condition.
  • Providing care for children with gastrostomies and other specialist needs
  • Assist with personal care and daily activities while maintaining the child's dignity and independence.
  • Promote a child-centred approach ensuring the needs and preferences of each child are respected
  • Safeguard and protect children in accordance with national and local policies
  • Support families by providing advice, emotional support, and education on managing their child's condition
  • Responsible for continuing professional development and attend relevant training
  • Act as a role model for junior staff, students, providing supervision and mentorship, where appropriate.
