Music Therapist - Band 7, permanent - 0.6WTE

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Music Therapist to join the well-established Psychological Services team working within inpatient services for people with Intellectual Disabilities at Brooklands Hospital.

The post holder will be an integral part of the multi-disciplinary team supporting adults and young people in the Specialist Assessment and Treatment Service (SATS) and the Adolescent Service (CAMHS-LD).

The successful post holder will have post qualification experience including working with individuals whose behaviour presents a challenge to services. Experience of working with individuals with a learning disability is essential whilst experience of working within an inpatient setting or similar would be beneficial.

Main duties of the job

Music Therapyinput is highly valued by the multi-disciplinary team and there is an emphasis on close MDT working with colleagues from psychology, psychiatry, nursing, speech & language therapy, occupational therapy, and teaching.

In summary:

Assessing service users for suitability for music therapy.

Providing and evaluating the effectiveness of music therapy interventions. This is likely to include both individual and group interventions.

Contributing or leading on aspects of service development, undertaking audit and research, training others as appropriate and needed, including facilitating placements for Music Therapy trainees.

Working with external professionals to identify music therapy providers in the community for patients when this is assessed as an ongoing need following discharge.

Contributing to psychological professions and allied health professional forums alongside being part of arts psychotherapy service developments within the trust.

About us

The SATS and CAMHS-LD inpatient services are specialist assessment and treatment services for young people and adults with a learning disability and additional needs, who, due to levels of risk and complexity, require assessment and treatment in a hospital setting. The work of the team aligns with the principles of trauma informed care and positive behavioural support.

The SATS and CAMHS Psychological Services team are part of a wider Psychological Services team on the Brooklands site. The team is a well-established and supportive service and successful applicants will receive support to further develop their skills and knowledge, through good quality supervision and training opportunities. Supervision will be provided by an experienced Music Therapist from within the Directorate and there will be opportunities to work with other Music and Arts therapists within the Directorate.

The successful applicant will be encouraged to develop links with Music Therapy training courses in order to develop opportunities for trainee music therapists within the service.
