Inpatient Specialist Occupational Therapist (Band 6) Rehabilitation Tier 2

Mental Health Services. Full time, permanent position.

Hawkesbury Lodge is a 20 bedded mixed sex mental health rehabilitation unit, located in the community. It offers assessment and intervention services for people who have a severe and enduring mental health condition, generally step down from our Tier 1 rehab unit, or directy following an acute episode of mental ill health. At the end of Tier 2 rehabilitation, individuals may move into independent living or to an alternative appropriate and least restrictive setting.

The post holder will work full time over 5 days, and will be responsible for the clinical assessment, development, provision and evaluation of effective occupational therapy within this rehabilitation setting. The post will also involve group work, contribution to referral assessments, a contribution to the day to day running of the unit and the therapeutic environment, including the supervision of other staff.

This will be in close collaboration with the service users, rehabilitation and community multidisciplinary colleagues, based on the recovery model.

Main duties of the job

Take a lead role in the development, provision and evaluation of occupational therapy service delivery in the rehabilitation and recovery inpatient setting.

To ensure occupational therapy makes a significant and specialist contribution to services users' recovery and preparation for discharge.

Assess service users using a variety of assessment tools, specialised observational and communication skills.

Plan, develop and evaluate complex packages of care.

To contribute to the maintenance and development of the therapeutic environment within the rehabilitation and recovery inpatient setting.

To provide professional leadership, supervision and guidance to identified junior staff (occupational therapy, activity facilitators).

To be responsible for managing high standards of clinical care and maintaining service delivery based on sound clinical and professional judgement.

To have a detailed working knowledge of key partnership services and organisations (i.e. voluntary sector, social services, housing), including their eligibility criteria and access procedures, in order to be able to appropriately sign post or refer on.

To ensure effective communication and working relationships with the Multi-Disciplinary Team and other key partners.

To deputise for the AHP Therapies Co-ordinator as required and agreed.

Provide a learning environment and assessment of practice where required/appropriate for students of all disciplines.
