We are looking to recruit an innovative, enthusiastic and experienced Speech and Language Therapist to join our Forensic Assessment Consultation, Training and Treatment team (FACTT) which covers the area of Coventry and Warwickshire.

FACTT is a community forensic support service which was originally commissioned in 2018 as part of the Transforming Care Agenda. for adults with a learning disability (LD) to support timely discharge from hospital and prevent unnecessary admission to hospital or prison. In an exciting development, the FACTT team expanded late 2021 to include autistic adults who have forensic needs across Coventry and Warwickshire. Based on the core functions of the national specification for community forensic LD and autism services, the community forensic service provides:

  • Forensic in-reach support to inpatient services to support safe and timely discharges
  • Assessment and management of forensic risk in the community to ensure public safety and safety of the individual
  • Consultancy and support
  • Training and advice to other agencies
  • Treatment: Delivery of offence specific therapeutic interventions
  • Case Management of the most high risk cases

Main duties of the job

This is an exciting post; offering the right candidate the opportunity to take a lead role in speech and language therapy provision within the FACTT team. The successful applicant will be an integral member of a multidisciplinary team, which includes psychology, nursing, occupational therapy, social work and psychiatry. The post holder will be professionally managed and supervised by the AHP lead within the LD & A directorate but will receive clinical support and supervision from within the FACTT team.

To organise, deliver and develop the Speech and Language (SALT) provision in order to deliver agreed service objectives in line with relevant protocols and procedures.

To offer highly-specialist Speech & Language Therapist assessment and interventions to families and carers, working across inpatient and community services.

To manage their own caseload and work with other professionals/carers to help service users to reach recovery goals in the context of their LD and/or autism, risk and social circumstances.

To lead on and contribute to research and service development projects, in line with service priorities and timescales.

To supervise and manage clinical practice as required, including SALT students and other staff working in their clinical area.
