Job summary

We are looking to recruit an innovative, enthusiastic and experienced Occupational Therapist to join our team.

This is an exciting new post which will be split between our community forensic support service (FACTT) and our Inpatient Low Secure ASD service at Brooklands Hospital. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to take the lead role in establishing an Occupational Therapy service within the newly expanded Forensic Assessment Consultation, Training and Treatment (FACTT)team; as well as influencing the development of the inpatient pathway for our Low Secure Autism service.

The successful applicant will have experience of working in specialist inpatient or community learning disability and/or Autism services; demonstrating sound clinical knowledge of the assessment and management of complex cases.

Working with well-established MDTs consisting of AHPs, Psychologists, nursing and medical colleagues, the successful applicant will have the opportunity to further develop their knowledge and skills in working with a complex, varied and often challenging client group. They will be well-supported by experienced Therapists offering Peer supervision, Clinical Supervision and regular opportunities for CPD and networking. In addition, opportunities for further training and development are available through the Trust's LBR fund to further enhance knowledge, skills and confidence in working with this client group.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be required to manage a designated caseload; assessing need and planning and implementing appropriate interventions to reduce risk and to promote opportunities to develop and build skills.

Brooklands Hospital is a Specialist Inpatient Service for individuals with a Learning Disability and / or Autism - services on-site include male & female Secure Services, Assessment & Treatment Units and LD CAMHS (Child & Adolescent Mental Health). Occupational Therapy provision is integral to the Treatment Pathways in each of our services; offering assessment and intervention as appropriate to the needs of the individual as they progress through an Inpatient admission.

The service was originally designed for adults with a learning disability (LD) to support timely discharge from hospital and prevent unnecessary admission to hospital or prison. In an exciting development, the FACTT team is currently being expanded to include autistic individuals who have forensic needs across Coventry and Warwickshire. Based on the core functions of the national specification for community forensic LD and autism services, the community forensic service provides:

  • Forensic in-reach support to inpatient services to support safe and timely discharges
  • Assessment and management of forensic risk in the community to ensure public safety and safety of the individual
  • Consultancy and support
  • Training and advice to other agencies
  • Treatment: Delivery of offence specific therapeutic interventions
