We are looking for a person who is committed to protecting and improving the lives of individuals and their families.

We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic, highly motivated, well organised practitioner, who has experience of working within the Safeguarding Adult arena to provide additional support to our existing team. It is important that the candidate has experience of working closely with clinicians and other external statutory partners and must have a sound level of knowledge regarding current safeguarding adult legislation and statutory guidance .

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential. In addition, the post holder will need to work effectively and flexibly to respond appropriately to challenging circumstances and be able to work on their own initiative.

Main duties of the job

This role supports the Head of Safeguarding (Children and Adults).

The role entails working across the local health and social care economy to prevent harm, fostering and facilitating multi-professional interagency working in respect of Safeguarding Adults.

Safeguarding training so that CWPT staff have the appropriate knowledge, skills and attitudes to address actual and potential harm, including domestic abuse and undertaking reviews on behalf of CWPT where required.

To act as a resource on safeguarding adults issues, providing accessible, accurate and relevant advice and information to staff within CWPT.

Responding to requests for multiagency reviews and audits from the Safeguarding Boards / Partnerships.

  • To promote the safeguarding of adults with care and support needs within the organisation.
  • To identify and champion safeguarding adults development and innovations.
  • To promote continuous improvement in the delivery of excellent services.
  • Ensure that the views of service users, their carers, families and representatives are taken into account in the development and implementation of safeguarding adults service provision.
  • To influence service delivery around domestic abuse, seeking to empower colleagues, clients, and carers.
  • To overcome staff and public barriers to understanding the area of safeguarding adults including issues around domestic abuse and the assessment of mental capacity.

Training

  • To support the Head of Safeguarding and Safeguarding team in meeting the safeguarding adults training needs for the organisations staff .
  • To support the Head of Safeguarding and Safeguarding team in the design/deliver or commission training that gives the opportunity for retention of knowledge and facilitates transfer of learning experiences to the workplace and then to evaluate the training.
  • To contribute to multi-agency pool in delivering training.

Specialist Knowledge

  • To apply knowledge of the current legislation around promoting and safeguarding the health, welfare and safety of adults with care and support needs, knowledge of national and local policies, knowledge of inter-agency roles and responsibilities, knowledge of the Care Act 2014 and knowledge of the recognition and assessment of adults with care and support needs who are at risk of abuse or neglect.
  • To maintain an awareness of the Mental Capacity Act ( MCA) and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards ( DoLS) and their impact upon Safeguarding Adults work.
  • To actively disseminate knowledge through publications, conference presentations and participation in local and national groups relevant to safeguarding adults agenda.
  • Review research in the area of safeguarding adults and advise the Trust accordingly. Undertake any research appropriate to the role.

Advice and Support

  • To promote good professional practice within the organisation around safeguarding adults by providing safeguarding adults advice and guidance on request to all Trust staff.
  • To work alongside managers in building confidence and skills in undertaking the Section 75 duties in mental health services.
  • To provide an ad hoc safeguarding adults supervision service for any relevant frontline staff who need support or time for reflection when dealing with safeguarding adults issues and to maintain monitoring data on take-up rate.
  • To improve patient care through empowering all Trust staff to identify and tackle abuse.
  • To monitor the safeguarding adults work within the organisation and report regularly to the appropriate groups on progress.
  • To help plan, develop and evaluate systems to gather, collate, analyse, interpret, monitor, present, disseminate and generally act as a repository for safeguarding adults information within the Trust.
  • To analyse incoming data and produce reports of recommendations from a range of options.
  • To take appropriate action to ensure that decisions and recommendations in individual cases are followed through.

Multi-Agency Working

  • To participate in and promote multi-agency working by liaising closely with the Local Safeguarding Adults Boards / Partnerships to ensure joined up multi-agency working to safeguard adults across the Trust.
  • To attend relevant meetings both internal and external to the organisation e.g., the Safeguarding Adults Subgroups. The post holder will represent the Trust on multi-agency meetings where complex multi-stranded concepts are discussed and will have to communicate the Trusts viewpoint and vision clearly, enabling others to share that vision.
  • To work with multi-agency colleagues e.g., Multi Agency Risk Assessment Conferences (MARAC) and other committees, negotiating outcomes, disseminating trends, research and promoting clinical quality and outcomes.
