Ward Manager Inpatient Services - Band 7
Full time, permanent role
The Jade Adolescent Service at Brooklands Hospital is looking for a keen and enthusiastic Ward Manager to lead a team in providing 24 hour care to adolescents with a learning disability who require a period of inpatient assessment and treatment which cannot be provided in the community setting. The job involves working closely with members of a MDT and a range of disciplines to ensure that patients receive the highest quality care. Experience in both operational management and clinical managementwithin a inpatient setting is desirable.

The post holder will be responsible for ensuring that all patients have comprehensive packages of care provided in a therapeutic environment. They will be responsible for the day to day staff management and supervision of staff, management of the unit budget and the recruitment and training of the staff team. They will need to ensure that the unit is following both local and national guidelines and that policies are being developed and followed. The ward manager will also need to have a good knowledge and work within the legal framework of the Mental Health Act.

Qualifications
Essential
- Registered Nurse Learning Disability (RNLD) or Registered Mental Health nurse (RNMH)
- Management Qualification (Diploma level or above) or equivalent level of experience
Knowledge and skills
Essential
- Able to recognise the emotional effect of working with Service Users who may: o Have been the victim of abuse (physical, sexual, emotional) o Display self-harm, violence and Aggression o People who suffer extreme distress
- Able to supervise and support staff working with the above Service Users
- Must be able to demonstrate a good working knowledge and understanding of the Mental Health Act.
- Able to communicate with patients, staff and professional colleagues about complex and emotive issues in a supportive and non-judgemental manner
- Able to develop and maintain effective communication links with a range of people including motivating and supporting staff working in difficult situations.
- Proven ability to meet audit and performance targets as set by local and national bodies e.g CQC
