The post is based at paybody building in Coventry but as a team we cover the whole of Coventry & Warwickshire.

We are looking to employ an Art or Music Therapist to join our well-established Children's Learning Disability Team already inputting into the CLDT. The Psychological Professionals team includes 2 Clinical Psychologists. We have Arts Therapists in four of our other teams, but this is the first time for this team so a great opportunity to develop the role. There is strong multi-disciplinary working within the service and the contribution of psychological services staff is highly valued. Successful applicants will receive excellent support and regular, good quality supervision by a senior Arts Therapist. There will be CPD opportunities and the postholder will be supported to develop and build professional links with relevant university courses and professional bodies.

The Arts Therapist will provide input to this Learning Disability service in the form of specialist assessments and interventions, team formulation, consultation, and training. You will also lead on and contribute to service development, audit and research.

Services are provided to a population of over one million people living in Coventry and Warwickshire and also a wider geographical area in some of our specialist services, we see on average around 5,000 patients every day.

Essential

  • A degree in art/music or other relevant training such as psychology, nursing, social work
  • MA/MSc or equivalent in art/music therapy training as an Art/Music Therapist
  • Registration with the HCPC as an Art/ Music Therapist
  • Registered member of BAAT or BAMT
  • Evidence of Continued professional Development

Experience

Essential

  • Recent experience of delivering art/music therapy assessment and intervention for children or adults with learning disabilities and complex emotional; behavioural and mental health needs
  • Experience of maintaining professionalism in challenging circumstances
  • Experience of tailoring psychological assessment and intervention to individual needs.
  • Experience ofworking and contributing effectively to multi-disciplinary and interagency working
  • Experience of collaborative goal setting and outcomes measurement as part of clinical intervention

Knowledge and skills

Essential

  • In depth knowledge of the theory and practice of art/music therapy generally and specifically to the client group.
  • High degree of skill in working with clients who struggle to express themselves verbally due to disability, trauma or other difficulties
  • Able to plan and implement evidence based clinical interventions from referral to discharge
  • Well-developed verbal and written communication skills, suitable to the specialty.
