opportunity has been created on ward 5 gastroenterology at UHND for a full-time
band 6. This will be mainly day shift but there will be nights as well, to
ensure there is a sister/charge nurse on 7 days a week. You will take charge of
the ward in the absence of the band 7 We are seeking to appoint
enthusiastic a band 6 ward sister to join our team on a 32 bedded
Gastroenterology ward at UHND.

Main duties of the job
This
post is for a qualified nurse who wants to further their experience and skills
in nursing and move into a senior leadership position. The post holder will be
expected to demonstrate good clinical skills and will be responsible for
individualised care of patients. They should be able to lead on education and
supervision of learners. Be able to supervise and co-ordinate other staff as
appropriate. Take charge of the ward in the absence of the ward manager. To
facilitate early discharge planning enabling appropriate arrangements to be in
place for patients leaving hospital, making referrals and providing information
to community services, as required, to achieve a safe and timely discharge from
hospital. Always demonstrate compassion and empathy. The post holder will have
good clinical decision making and be able to support junior nurses with their
development, they be well organised and keen to engage with staff and lead them
to excellence.

We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community based settings and providing care in patients' homes.
