Job summary

CDDFT Podiatry Department are looking for an enthusiastic and committed Podiatrist to join our diverse team. The post will be based at Chester-le-Street Hospital and will support our community, domicillary case loads. The post includes the locality lead for DCLS.

The post holder will work collaboratively as part of the high risk team to deliver specialist podiatric care to people across County Durham and Darlington Foundation Trust to meet the standards set by NICE NG 19 (2019).

Take a clinical lead role for a specialist area of high risk wound care podiatry work within:

Diabetes and Tissue Viability

Provide professional leadership to the wider Team and act as an expert practitioner resource, leading by example.

Employs specialist techniques and programmes of care in the treatment of patients

Provides specialist podiatry advice both within and externally to the Trust

Assesses and treats patients with specialised care needs which includes referrals from other practitioners and disciplines

Undertake training of other staff and students

Lead by example on service transformation activity and maintain the Teams focus on continuous service improvement and value for money

Main duties of the job

Clinical Responsibilities

Assess foot wounds/tissue breakdown of all patients.

Provide Specialist Podiatry input in the care plan of Diabetic Foot pathology, particularly in regards to debridement, antibiotics, dressings and offloading/Pressure relief.

To work within and liaise with other disciplines for patients that require an MDT approach (including Diabetologist, Vascular Consultant, Microbiology, Orthopaedics where appropriate).

Plan and deliver Diabetic foot care education to healthcare professionals (formalised training e.g. tissue viability/diabetes nurses training days etc.) and student nurses etc. as identified.
