This
Band 6 Registered Nurse post provides senior clinical and operational support
within the Chemotherapy Day Unit, delivering high quality, safe systemic
anti-cancer therapy across the Trust. While the post is site-based across two
designated chemotherapy units, the role supports Trust-wide chemotherapy
services, contributing to consistency of practice, pathway standardisation, and
equitable patient experience.
The
postholder will provide visible clinical leadership on shift, supporting
patient flow, workforce coordination, and adherence to chemotherapy safety
standards in a complex outpatient setting. They will act as a senior clinical
resource for registered nurses and support staff, contributing to supervision,
competency development, and escalation of clinical concerns.
Working
across two sites and supporting Trust-wide services, the Band 6 nurse will
facilitate effective communication, cross-site working, and service resilience.
In addition to direct clinical care, the role contributes to governance, audit,
quality improvement, and service development activity, supporting delivery of
planned treatment capacity and national cancer performance standards.
Main duties of the job
Provide
senior clinical leadership within the Chemotherapy Day Unit, ensuring the safe
delivery of systemic anti-cancer therapy in line with national and local
chemotherapy safety standards.
Coordinate
and support day-to-day clinical activity across two sites, contributing to
effective patient flow, treatment scheduling, and optimal use of treatment
chairs.
Act
as a senior clinical resource for registered nurses and support staff,
providing guidance, supervision, and escalation of complex clinical issues.
Undertake
comprehensive patient assessment, deliver and supervise chemotherapy
administration, and manage treatment-related adverse reactions.
Support
Trust-wide chemotherapy services by promoting consistency of practice,
standardisation of pathways, and cross-site working.
Contribute
to workforce planning, skill-mix management, and induction and development of
staff, including competency assessment.
Participate
in clinical governance activity, including audit, risk management, and quality
improvement initiatives.
Support
service performance by contributing to the delivery of planned treatment
activity and national cancer performance standards.
