Job summary

The maternity team at the University Hospital of North Durham are seeking an enthusiastic individual who is keen and passionate about delivering and promoting maternity care in the acute hospital setting. Support workers provide care to mothers, birthing people, their newborn infants and their families through pregnancy, labour and during the postnatal period. Their role is integral to the successful deployment of maternity services.

Main duties of the job

Maternity Support Workers (MSWs) work in line with the nationally recognised NHS Maternity support worker competency, education and career development framework. The successful applicant will be provided with the appropriate training to meet the requirements of the framework.

Support workers in maternity settings may:

support the work of registered and non-registered practitioners

work under direct or indirect supervision, and/or as lone workers, where appropriate

work across service settings and professional boundaries, according to the needs of women, their newborn infants and their families and local service provision

We provide hospital services from two acute sites - Darlington Memorial Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham. We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community based settings and providing care in patients' homes.
