Job summary
We are recruiting to three senior inpatient physiotherapist posts within the Acute Inpatient Physiotherapy Teams.
- Permanent full time position at Darlington Memorial Hospital.
- Permanent full time position at University Hospital North Durham.
- Temporary (maternity cover ending 30/08/26) full time position at University Hospital North Durham.
The successful applicant will work within a friendly, strong team and provide effective, evidence based and often complex therapy to patients on the acute site working within a supportive multidisciplinary team environment.
You will work as an autonomous practitioner and as part of the wider MDT to delegate and prioritise the caseload. Your development will be supported by the inpatient leads. The post holder will be responsible for supervising band 5 physiotherapists, band 4 and 3 physiotherapy assistants and students.
The successful applicant will utilise their outstanding organisation and communication skills to support with the rehabilitation and discharge planning of patients.
Main duties of the job
Perform advanced physiotherapeutic assessment and treatment of patients in the acute wards treating patients with a diverse conditions across frailty, surgery, medical and respiratory / ITU
Provide timely goals with clinical reasoning and develop treatment plans, deliver individualised evidence based treatment programmes and assist in discharge planning.
Undertake all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner.
Hold responsibility for own caseload and be responsible for a defined area of the service or a particular patient type, working without direct supervision.
Supervision takes the form of regular informal training and clinical reasoning sessions, peer review, case conferences. Access to advice and support from a more senior physiotherapist is available as required.
Provide clinical supervision and education to the physiotherapy team and wider MDT. This would include regular formal and informal training and clinical reasoning sessions as well as doing appraisals when required.
Take on delegated responsibility from the band 7 clinical physiotherapist and team lead physiotherapist.
Participate in the weekend and bank holiday rota and the on call service.
