Job summary

An opportunity has arisen for a Qualified Plaster Technician to join an established team covering services across three main sites, supporting a comprehensive range of orthopaedic and trauma speciality clinics.

Applicants must have completed and passed the British Orthopaedic Assoociation Casting Course and have preferrable two yeaars experience as a Plaster Technician.

The post holder will be accountable for all aspects of care requiring plaster casts/splints/braces whilst under the supervision of qualified staff.

To undertake and participate in statutory training and in service programme.

To participate in annual personal review being consistent of service needs.

Main duties of the job

To work as an autonomous practitioner within the service, compliance with local guidelines and prescribed care. As a member of the service the post holder will be required to direct, instruct and supervise trainee plaster technicians and other clinical staff i.e. medical and nursing staff, demonstrating high standards of cast application. To actively seek the views of patients and carers on their understanding of their care needs to ensure the patient experience is positive. To plan the workload of the plaster room to ensure effective and efficient utilisation of resources on a daily basis, organising staff cover arrangements where necessary. To be flexible to the needs of the service and patients at all times, ensuring a streamlined efficient service

The successful applicant will work closely with qualified Plaster Technicians to carry out prescribed treatments while demonstrating evidence based practice and complying with the British Orthopaedic Association guidelines.

Trainees will also learn in depth anatomy and physiology to ensure safe and effective practice.

Trainees will be accountable for providing casting and splinting support within clinics as requested
